How Do You *feel* God's Presence?

This is a fascinating question for me as well; as a baby Christian myself, I wonder this same thing. I have heard of different things, like for example: there was a Mormon convert that described the 'feeling of the Mormon spirit. I have no idea what that means, but my guess is it has to do with the 'fire' you feel inside.

So to sum up my thinking in one word, it would have to be this:

TRUTH

'Emotions' often lead us down the wrong path-but if we are tried in the fire of TRUTH all impurities are boiled off.

"I am the WAY, the TRUTH, and the LIFE." -Jesus Christ

Matthew 3:11, We have to burn off the sin to get down to the Holy. We have to 'cut away' -or- circumcise the garbage from around our spiritual hearts.

When I 'feel' closest to God-it is in humility and focusing on what He has done for me, it is in times of service & worship to Him. I have to abandon the cares of this world-the flesh-the carnal. Unfortunately those moments are too few and far between...

Here's my take on this: In Matthew 28:20 - "And be sure of this: I am with you always, even to the end of the age"

God has promised that he is with us and in us once we accept Jesus as our Lord and Savior. Whether you feel his presence or not you can be assured that he is there. There are people that feel God's presence in various forms like your hands, back etc etc heat up during prayer/praise- worship - which could also be his presence. I do feel that sometimes. Some people even say that they feel the anointing around which I'd assume is similar to what I just mentioned above.

Just to add in a bit more - You know how you feel this warm sense in your heart after you have spent time or while you are spending time with the Lord? If you have experienced this any time, that is his presence too :)
 
Unfortunately, pancakes, this is one of those questions that no one can answer for you. Just as we are all created unique in Gods eye, so is our relationship with Him. Furthermore, our experiences are shared and articulated differently. So while one may be verbose and enthusiastic about their presence of the Lord, another may be quiet and only speak a few words. However, their feeling may be equal.

Another point to keep in mind, is no one can tell you "how" to feel His presence, since again, our relationship with him is different than everyone else. Just as if a parent has several children, they do not treat them all the time. Nor should we expect God to do with us.

I personally feel Gods presence when I am deep in prayer, in my bed, when I begin to weep and say things that would not occur to me if I had not come to Him. My prayers with the Lord (as I've grown with Him) have become more beneficial than any therapy session I've had in my life. I have to many "Ah ha!" moments in prayer. So although I don't feel like I'm floating, or have this absolute overwhelming sensation, I just know from the bottom of my heart that he is listening to me and giving me wisdom, because there is no other way to describe what goes through my mind at those moments.

Another time I feel His presence is while in church. Again, when I begin to cry. My only explanation is that the Holy Spirit is speaking to me. I may be wrong, but for those who know me, I am not at all a crier so for me to cry for no reason....well, that's telling me something, and I strongly believe it's God talking to me.


I'm sure you've watched pastors in the past and something feels "off"; it's as if their relationship with God is disingenuous. Personally, I feel I can usually spot that out in a split second. I have the privilege of going to two churches when I know from the bottom of my heart that the Holy Spirit is within them. Have you ever felt or seen this? In my opinion, if you can discern this in others, then you can know for sure that Gods presence is with you.
 
wow tink, youre really luck to be able to exp that ... if I could feel half of that I think i'd be alright hmmm idk if im cut out for this : / I really don't
 
@ Jake, I've never felt that before in my life ... I guess I'm not important enough or one of His favorites : / nothing I can do about that I suppose.
 
Uh oh pancakes...what do you mean? No one is necessarily "cut out" to be Gods child. He loves each and every one of us, but as I stated, our relationship with him is going to be different than what others experience. It is also a relationship that is ever growing.

When I first began this path, I remember comparing myself to those who had divine revelations and interventions. I was jealous and thought that I must be doing something wrong or that I wasn't saved. To this day, I no longer feel jealousy, but do yearn for that type of redemption that some people obtain. I can't focus on others though, because the Lord wants us to focus on him and not men or things of this word because "things" are fleeting. 1 John 2:17. Furthermore, in 1 Samuel 16:7, we see that we cannot assume ones character and I would go so far as to say, their relationship with God. While someone may seemingly have a almost unreal relationship with the Lord, it might not be that way.

I had to learn that my walk with Him is unique in nature. I must not focus on his relationship with others or even assume mine is greater. It's tough. We live in a world full of comparisons, where Satan wants you to believe you will never be good enough in Gods eyes. He wants you to doubt every little tiny thing about who you are so that you flee from God and come to the world. You know why, Pancakes? Because the world is easy. In the world you can do what you want without repercussions that last an eternity.

Don't give up. The Lord rewards those who are steadfast in their faith.
 
Salvation is 'free' to those who accept it. Blessings and gifts come from 2 things that we can do: (NOT WORKS):

1: Obedience to God's Word/ Spirit
2: Sacrifice

When I say sacrifice consider this; when we pray earnestly-we are sacrificing our time to be out of the world and communing with Christ.

When we 'fast' (not just food), we sacrifice worldly things in search of Godly things.

BUT: we will gain nothing if we don't first ask! We must pray to the Lord to receive anything....

Worship, meditate, read, fellowship, pray, repeat....

God expects us to W-O-R-K, but we are not slaves-we are servants of the Most High.

I agree with everything you say Dirty, except this part. I think we all need to pray, obviously :), and that it is absolutely essential. Without communication we would have no world. However, I don't believe that we have to pray to receive things all the time (perhaps you didn't mean this as a blanket statement?). Sometimes, we don't even know what we need, but God does and he provides that to us when least expected.

Matthew 7:7-11, Matthew 18:19, Matthew 21:22, Luke 11:9-13, John 14:13-14, John 15:7-8, John 15:16, John 16:23-24, Philippians 4:6, Philippians 4:19, James 1:5, 1 John 3:22, 1 John 5:14-15, 1 John 5:16

God answers prayer in three ways:

1: Yes
2: No
3: Wait

But he does not hear the prayers of those who are not in His will....

Yes, we are to gain when we pray (If, and only if, it is in His will). That doesn't necessarily mean that God limits us and doesn't answer prayers that haven't occurred...

I guess what you are saying is that God will provide us with blessings if it is His will to do so to fulfill His purpose-this I would agree with.

Jesus died for every person in this world (past, present and future). His love shines on all creation, we are all his most prized possession and there is nothing that would come in the way except sin. He loves you as much as he loves me and its only by his grace - which simply means that his love is not conditional by our good works.

Personally it took me a few years to get where I am in my relationship with him. He had to deal with the things in my life that were keeping his presence and blessings away from me first. He is still helping me out - I'll never be perfect on my own but only through his grace & forgiveness and love.

Ask him to reveal himself to you & let you really feel his love shine down on you. :)

I agree w/ the bolded... I get really jealous abt that too robably enough to give me a heart attack lol... but idk its like why let one exp more of you than the other? its like a parent who has two children and hugs on one and just holds their hand out at the other : /
 
Oh, and im not allergic to work, I can work and do what God expects me to do but its depressing when i seem to be getting no where and when i look to others its like it comes naturally .
