How do you know?

Yes I like to schedule my life. :ROFLMAO: I laugh because life is quite the opposite. So imagine my daily anxiety levels.
I'm trying hard to figure out where you are at. Best I got is that you want to go to college, but cannot afford it and are having a problem getting a student loan. I with I knew more.

Life really is a funny thing. When I was a kid, we grew up really poor. Not "dirt poor," but close enough. To go to college, I ended up joining the military. The plan was to do three years, het out and go to college. That three years grew into 25 and I have three masters that were paid for through by BI Bill. The funny part s that I have a great job that did not require a single masters. Go figure.

Here is what helps me. Today, I woke up. My family is healthy and safe. We paid all our bills this month and I have enough left over to go to Boston Market tonight. That, my friend, is a great blessing.

I have actually finished college and started working but I am not trying to change careers :). It's just life in general, how do you know when you have done all you can do? is there a point at which you leave the problem alone and let God handle it? If yes, at what point is "that time"? God gave us a great brain to help solve problems and we should not depend on him to do things he gave us the capacity to do. I ask this question because I usually run myself a wreck trying to fix things which then leads into stress and anxiety when nothing I do is working. And so I was wondering if sometimes there is a point where you let go and leave it to God or would this be giving up/lack of faith? Maybe I still sound confusing, but thank you guys for helping anyway :D:D

At the risk of coming off a little off center, I can tell you my opinion, but that it just my opinion. I believe that what God gives us are options, but it is up to us to take them (free will). Yes, there are moments in life when we are powerless to do anything and, in those moments, it is God’s will. However, I see those as few. Yes, He already knows what you are going to do and how it is going to end, but that really does not help us during the process.

What you are looking for is best captured in the Serenity Prayer by Reinhold Niebuhr: “God, grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, courage to change the things I can, and wisdom to know the difference.”

Unfortunately, the answer you are looking for will just frustrate you. The answer is . . . . (drum roll) . . . . it depends. Is what you are looking for worth the fight? Is it realistic? Is it within your control? Does it really matter? Have you done the best you can? Is your motivation genuine. Lastly, what would Jesus do?

Our lives are a sequence of moments; some good, some bad, and most somewhere in the middle. Search within yourself and ask God for the wisdom to know the difference and the faith to accept it. If it’s a just cause, you fight for it, until you’ve not the strength to breath. Then, take a moment, catch your breath, get back up, and fight some more.

If is it not, walk away. Anyway you cut this pie, it is going to be what He wants it to be, but, as long as you have the strength to open one eye, He is telling you to continue the fight.

At the end, if you have done all that is humanly possible, you can be comforted by knowing that you did all you could.

is there a point at which you leave the problem alone and let God handle it? If yes, at what point is "that time"?
This is when it's "that time"-->
I usually run myself a wreck trying to fix things which then leads into stress and anxiety when nothing I do is working.

Speaking only for myself, I have come to learn that sometimes the "leap of faith" we need to take is to just to "be still".
When we have limited options, and there is nothing we can do to change our situation, and we have tried what we can... it's time to be still, wait, believe, and listen... it's not about us "giving up" or "quitting"... it's about being patient, and waiting on God's timing, to reveal the path He is intending for us.

I have always been stubborn, and always believed that anything good is worth fighting for, and not giving up, etc... so this was always hard lesson for me to learn..
But the moment we understand that a situation is beyond our control- and make up our minds that we are unable to change the situation on our own... then we just talk to God & tell Him.. let Him know we need His guidance and are just going to stop, be still, quiet our minds, and wait on His direction for us.
Some would call that "submitting'.. it's exercising our patience, endurance, faith, & trust.

There are countless reasons why things may not be visibly progressing... but don't allow the enemy to use your circumstances against you and distract you from your faith. Hit the reset button! Be still. Pray. Dig into your Bible. and don't allow satan to bring doubt, stress, anxiety, or fear into your heart!

Keep your eyes and ears open... the opportunity that presents itself may even be something completely different that what you think you want, yet it may serve as a stepping stone to get you somewhere else. We never know what God is busy putting into motion... but we can be assured that He is working on something awesome!

28 And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to [his] purpose. [Romans 8:28 KJV]-

6 Be careful for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God. 7 And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus. 8 Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things [are] honest, whatsoever things [are] just, whatsoever things [are] pure, whatsoever things [are] lovely, whatsoever things [are] of good report; if [there be] any virtue, and if [there be] any praise, think on these things. ... 11 Not that I speak in respect of want: for I have learned, in whatsoever state I am, [therewith] to be content. 12 I know both how to be abased, and I know how to abound: every where and in all things I am instructed both to be full and to be hungry, both to abound and to suffer need. 13 I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me. [Philippians 4:6-8, 11-13 KJV]

11 For the LORD God [is] a sun and shield: the LORD will give grace and glory: no good [thing] will he withhold from them that walk uprightly. 12 O LORD of hosts, blessed [is] the man that trusteth in thee. [Psalm 84:11-12 KJV]

(sometimes our biggest struggle is to be able to be still and wait in faith while God is putting His plans for us into place... it's not always our battle to fight, but we still must face the problem and stand firm in our faith and be ready to listen & obey)
17 Ye shall not [need] to fight in this [battle]: set yourselves, stand ye [still], and see the salvation of the LORD with you, O Judah and Jerusalem: fear not, nor be dismayed; to morrow go out against them: for the LORD [will be] with you. [2 Chronicles 20:17 KJV]

I'm sorry if the post was a bit long... and I hope I didn't make it sound confusing! I do tend to ramble sometimes. I'll keep you in my prayers & when God reveals the opportunity/solution to you... keep us posted!

Take care & God bless :)

Brings to mind the verse when youve done all you can to stand

Check out Ephesians 6:13

Its talking about the armour of God. The armour of God is for our protection. Putting it on doesnt mean we need to go out to fight, it means God is going to fight the battle for us all we need to do is STAND.

Have you ever tried to teach a child to do something but they just go ahead and did it without waiting for your instructions to act. Then they inevitably do things the wrong way, because they just didnt sit still and listen to you first!

First of all.....what is your degree in if you do not mind telling us????

Now please know that I do not have a degree in psychology. However, I have lived a long life and experienced many things.

#1.
You asked...…..
" how do you know when you have done all you can do?"

Of course the answer is a question.....How do YOU know that YOU have in fact done all you could have done?????

Back many years ago, (1964) we were losing to our cross town rival by 2 points. We had played our hearts out. None of us could barely left an arm much less block or run. There was 3 minute left in the game. Just at the moment, one of my dearest friends in life to this day, during our last timeout, stood up and said...…."GIVE ME the ball. We are going to run every play right up the middle and win this game. DO YOU HERE ME".

Our coach called his number, every single play. The first play we gained 2 yards. The 2nd play we gain 10 years, then 10 more and then 20 more and every play we ran we gained more and more faith and low and behold we did win that game just as Ronnie told us. HE did exactly as he said he would.

The point is that Ronnie and us gained more faith as we ran and faith grows through repetition and exercise.!!!!!!

Someone said a long time ago...……...….
Accept what is, let go of what was, and have faith in your journey.”

“Don’t be scared to walk alone down the path less traveled, and don’t be scared to love every minute of it.”

" at what point is "that time"?

ALL THE TIME!!!!! Remember that God is always God and YOU are HIs child and yes, He gave you a brain, so know that the real battle is always in your mind. And your mind is under your control, not the other way around.

Now remember these facts of real life..........

1. YOU make mistakes.
2. YOU are less than perfect.
3. Just like YOU, everyone else is the same way.
4. And those qualities are perfectly OK.

#3.
"And so I was wondering if sometimes there is a point where you let go and leave it to God or would this be giving up/lack of faith?

NO! Allowing God to LIVE THROUGH YOU is not a lack of faith but it is instead just the opposite and that is the key to a Christian life my friend.

True faith is not meandering aimlessly and seeing where “God” would have us drift. Instead true faith is seeing the path God wants us to take, with its dangers and hardships and joys and toil, and deciding to follow that path to please our heavenly father.

In the end Christian living is about changing your focus - rather than living for the world, using all your energies to achieve the things YOU want to achieve, you live for God, having your mind and focus changed day by day so that you (more and more) use all your energies to achieve the things HE wants to achieve. As this process of the “renewing of the mind” continues, so what God wants slowly becomes what you want as well.

After reading responses to your question, I’ve spent some time re-thinking your question. Not knowing the specifics makes it difficult to fully understand the issue, but it is still a good start.

Like you, I too still struggle with basically the same set of questions. Here are my thoughts on a couple of “things.”

Thing one: We struggle with the idea of faith, but not really. When was the last time you checked your car’s breaks and steering, before getting in the car and driving away? I usually test the breaks, only when I am on the road and need to stop the car. I check the steering, when I turn left at the light. When was the last time you checked the structural reliability of a chair, before seating on it? I usually test the chair, as I sit. The facts are that breaks fail and chairs fall apart; however, we make future decisions based on past performance.

Thing two: I find is impossible to look forward and understand God’s purpose; however, I find it much easier to see His purpose, when I look backwards.

When my parents were dying, God did not change that, and both died. However; fifty years ago, when I was a little boy, I recall asking God to let my parents live a long time and both lived well into their 80s. My former wife had an affair with a co-worker. When I found out, I ended up filing for divorce. A couple of years later, I found my current wife. We have been married for over 20 years, raised 5 kids, and are still going strong. Last December, I found myself resigning from one of the better jobs I have held. It was one of the darkest professional moments of my life. How I have what I believe is the second-best job I have ever held (second only to my military career) and , were I able to change what happened last December, I would not change a thing. I am making less money but look forward to going to work every day.

So, what’s my point? Ok, here is it: If nothing else, we should have more faith in our Lord than we do on car breaks and a wood chair. To date, even during my many dark years where I had no faith in Him, God watched out for me and never failed. The answer was not always what I wanted, but turned out to be what I needed. We all go through turbulent weather and we are not going to get through all of them with the happy ending we think we want. What should keeps us going is faith in tomorrow through performance in the past.

Beautifully said!:) I think in the end..after reading through the responses, having faith in where God leads me in my problem.

Thank you everyone so much for the thoughtful responses. I really appreciate it. Having read through the responses I have realized that my problem really is maintaining my faith which is not good as God has done so much for me. Everything I have achieved is because of him. He just untangles all the knots. It's just hard to look forward and not know what lies ahead. I think that's the problem I need to fix within myself.

Correct!

Hebrews 12:27-29...…….
"And this word, Yet once more, signifieth the removing of those things that are shaken, as of things that are made, that those things which cannot be shaken may remain. 28Wherefore we receiving a kingdom which cannot be moved, let us have grace, whereby we may serve God acceptably with reverence and godly fear: 29For our God is a consuming fire.

Do not be shaken and stand steadfast in the faith of the Lord Jesus.

Try doing this as seen in Ephesians 6;10-15...…...

"Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord, and in the power of his might. Put on the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil. For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places. Wherefore take unto you the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand. Stand therefore, having your loins girt about with truth, and having on the breastplate of righteousness; And your feet shod with the preparation of the gospel of peace

Psalms 121:7-8 says …...….
"The LORD watches over you- the LORD is your shade at your right hand; the sun will not harm you by day, nor the moon by night. The LORD will keep you from all harm- he will watch over your life; the LORD will watch over your coming and going both now and forevermore".

Philippinas 3:13...……..
"Brothers, I do not consider that I have made it my own. But one thing I do: forgetting what lies behind and straining forward to what lies ahead,"

What lies ahead of us is tomorrow not important my brother. Knowing who holds tomorrow in His hand is the only thing that matters.

PROV 3:1 My son, forget not my law; but let thine heart keep my commandments:
PROV 3:2 For length of days, and long life, and peace, shall they add to thee.

PROV 3:4 So shalt thou find favour and good understanding in the sight of God and man.

More so, favor and good understanding shall be found, , oh my! in the sight of God!....

a bonus, we are all humans, we need each other compliments as well, , in the sight of our fellow man as well.

I think am a decade or two older than a young man.. but those older than us surely have more experience to give advice :)

We do face day to day decisions: that verse is to me very helpful indeed to seek TRUTH, and to apply MERCY? No?

? i think precisely the verse worded it, : it mentioned MERCY first then TRUTH :)

We may have more advice to give, but most think that we are too old to give it.

How can you tell when God is testing you vs when it's you just making faulty decisions? When do you know it's time to stop vs push harder?
So I find myself in a situation where I have tried my best, I have done all I can do. But how do I know for sure that I should stop in faith knowing God will work it out? How do I know that God is not saying..keep working harder? Understand what I mean? Are there bible verses on this? How when do we know when to stop? I am someone who likes to be in control of everything. So I dont know how to not try to control things.

I'm going to say this, and I know it sounds twee, but ask God before you even try to fix it yourself. I've learned this through bitter experience. I have always tried to control things and fix things and do everything I possibly can to make things good, and then pray. What I've learned is to pray first, for advice and help before I even attempt to launch into my 'Mrs Fixit' mode. Pray, wait, listen.

We used to say when I worked in the public library to let everything fall over first and then the council will HAVE to come and fix it.

If they don't see it's actually broken and its just patched over by ourselves, they won't lift a finger or invest any money in it.

Sounds terrible but that's the way it is.

It's like, for example, men that don't bother to go to the doctor and just say everything's alright until its really bad.
Or say your heart is broken and you try and fix it yourself instead of telling God and letting Him heal your heart. You could spend years in useless and expensive therapy trying to fix things up, or numbing yourself with drugs, never admitting the problem is not actually under your control.

There are many things we cannot control, we can only control our own thoughts, not everyone else's. And often we can't make other people fit into our schedule. Parents also must realise they cannot control their children, even spouses cannot control their other half. You could put a dog on a leash, but not people. You can train up children and people but you cannot actually force anyone else to do anything, or even manipulate them.

Why because faith means you learn to trust the other person will do what God wants them to do. If you put your faith in God, well you can't go wrong as He always does what He says He will do. It may not be on your timing, but you need to give God the credit because, He's way older and wiser than we are.
