Coronavirus spreading around the world

On a lighter note, people in the UK are panic buying toilet roll...????? which means that many supermarket shelves are currently empty. If anyone in the US wishes to help, please send me a roll. Or two.(y)
I just did an inventory. We have a pack of 12. There are two of us, so I think we will have to ration.

I did not know you were here in Miami. Well, as you probably know, both the county and the city have each declared a state of emergency. Like I said before, this is not the end of the world, but it is something to take serious enough to lessen its impact. We have already canceled two air trips (one to VA and one to MO). Both were social in nature and can wait for a bit.

Now just waiting to see if they close schools now, or wait to the spring break in a week. There is a great deal of pressure to close them now, specially since everything else is being canceled.

The day is not over, so I guess we will see.

I moved but still fly out of Miami, and was going there this weekend, but its getting crazy. I spent the whole day yesterday look for a roll of toilet paper, I came up empty handed, not good.

Lowes has lots of sandpaper and then there is always lots of catalogs mailed to us every day!!!!!!

I did a re-look in the garage. Originally, I thought we had 12 rolls. Turns out we have 24, because I mistook one package as paper towels. I think I will take some of them and burry them in the backyard.

Good luck with the sand paper. Major can be a little cruel sometimes. Guess you can start cutting up sheets.

For our friends in sub tropical or tropical climates - you can always use palm fronds - but shake the spiders and geckos off first. ;)

I worked on a kiwifruit orchard once, thinning out kiwifruit. What happened was the fruit got affected by a virus called PSA.

Before that we had hundreds of kiwifruit orchards, producing tonnes of kiwifruit for export. It bought in millions of dollars from the trade, and people got very rich. But when the virus hit, the the orchard industry was devastated. It was because they grew too much of one plant. So people growing kiwifruit would rip out all their plants and decide to grow something else instead. But the thing is, people shouldn't have been growing too much of one thing, exporting overseas. We couldn't even eat our own homegrown kiwifruit so all the best food would be sold overseas.

It really shows the dark side of world trade. Scientists would be scrambling to genetically engineer plants that could handle being shipped overseas but we couldn't even eat our own homegrown kiwifruit.

You make a good point there.monoculture was never intended by design.
I once had a permaculture garden and boy did it flourish.
All I did was look at nature to see what grew naturally in my area and left it to itself.
Maybe if us humans lived side by side with other races and wildlife instead of trying to dominate it we would learn a thing or two.

My brother is flying into the states very Very soon from uk.

He’s going to Virginia.

I wouldn’t like him to be wandering about your streets alone in all this pandemonium... and I’m not sure if your president has called a carefew there
So if anyone in Virginia spots a strange looking Brit dressed in army pants, do not be alarmed, he is one of us and quite handy with a harmonica!

Just thought I’d let you Americans know😊

Good morning. Well, I guess you all and not on the list of countries that cannot come over for tea in the US. So looks like you all are at 1,143 with 21 deaths. I think we (US) will hit 3,000 sometime this morning, (we are at 2,952) with 57 deaths. In my state, we are holding at 77 cases, 4 deaths.

So how are things going over there? I have had no reason to leave the house since Friday, but all appears "semi" normal. I'm not hiding, but I usually only leave the house on the weekends to attend and serve at our church and that's been canceled. All schools are closed and they have placed a ban on visiting nursing homes. All major public events have been canceled, to include most church gatherings. Spring break has ended early and I heard that they are closing public beaches (Miami Beach, aka: South Beach) for major cleanup of public areas. Our airport has been designated as one able to receive flights with someone that is infected and our sea port as being able to take in any cruise ship with infected passengers. I suspect there will be few of those, as all of our major sea cruise companies have shut down operations for the foreseeable future. Our airport is an international airport, so they too are seeing much less business. All private businesses are still in operations, but fast food restaurants and now receiving much business. Many of them (McDonalds, Burger King, KFC, etc) are preparing to shift to drive-through operations and not counter operations. Some private business are shutting down on their own and places that use to be open 24/7 (major grocery stores in particular) are now closing around 8 in the evening to allow personnel to re-stock and clean the stores).

I work for the school board and have been told to work from home. Not sure, but I believe that many county and state employees are also preparing to telecommute. Like I said, our schools are closed; however, they have transitioned to on-line learning until we go on spring break and the end of this coming week.

Our school spring break starts this coming Friday and ends on March 30th; however, I suspect schools will remain closed, as I do not see this getting any better in two weeks.

Take care of yourself,

Not sure why he is coming, but a ban on all travel from/to the UK goes into effect tomorrow. https://www.bbc.com/news/world-us-canada-51891662

Sounds major.

in NZ we have border control..anyone coming in must isolate for 2 weeks.

Schools haven't announced any closure yet but I have a plan in place if we do. I'm going to send children home with heaps of books. They could borrow up to 20 with extended time.

Our schools have shut down. In theory, we come back after the Spring break (March 30th), but I am starting to hear rumors that we might not come back at all and just continue the on-line thing until the end of the 2019 - 2020 school year (mid June). Also, our superintendent just announced that we are no longer allowed to disseminate anything via paper (including books). For the moment, we just became 100% digital.

Boris Johnson has told the nation not to go to the pub. Good luck with that one! I haven't been to a pub in ages, I wonder if they've got any toilet roll?

Just had a text from friend I spent Sunday with. Her sister, who she spent Saturday with, has the virus. My friend has been told to self-isolate. Watch this space:whistle:

Also, on the radio, they're talking about Corona Kindness, taking supplies to older people who are stuck at home. All is not lost in this crazy world:cool:

Oh gross its not like computer keyboards and phones and tablets don't have germs.
They are the worst.

Books are fine. When the internet is down, books are what we will have. Too bad if you don't have any.

Also, virtual toilet paper doesn't work.

We are getting a free shipment of books today or next week.

I have been giving lots away the children win them as prizes.

I wouldn't give a child a screen to play on and think they are learning much online unless the content is monitored. After the shooter tried to livestream a massacre on Facebook, and what with cyber bullying, I'm like NO. I've already blocked you-tube and gaming content on all computers in the library, and its much more peaceful.

Our school system practically gave every student a laptop to attend school from home. It is actually no longer possible to attend school and not have a computer at home.

oh too bad your children just miss out on some great books rtm.

Sounds terrible.
We have this books called 'Diary of a Minecraft Zombie' series and it's actually a send up of a kid who turns into a zombie playing minecraft all day, every day. You think kids do work or learn lessons on computers? Nope, the moment your back is turned they'll be accessing games, and porn. cos the games link to the porn sites, and the parent's credit cards, (saved on computer) and everything else.

I do remember the days when we had computers without internet. The only game you could play was a pinball or a card game. Not shoot em ups.

I had a teacher she couldn't mark her roll cos her cursor wouldn't work on her laptop. Thing is, one computer per child some households can only share computer time. With books you can have as many as you want, and you can swap and borrow amongst friends. And they are free.
