Should any Christian Hold to Theistic Evolution then?

Good afternoon, Origen;

Please bear with me here. I have to admit this is not my area of even the most fundamental knowledge. How does man develop so much "formula and process" just to understand dating and determining materials and multiple years, in this case the earth?!?

God bless you, brother.

Bob
exactly my thoughts Bro Bob : )

exactly my thoughts Bro Bob : )
The very same way that man now drives a car instead of walking.

The same way that man now has anti-biotics to heal fevers.

The same way that man now has the ability to fly in a metal can.

The same way that man now rides on a tractor instead of walking behind a mule to plow his fields.

The same way we can now get the news on a box instead of from the neighbors.

The same way we now have a light bulb instead of a candel.

It is called.......Intelligence!

Daniel 1:17.......
"As for these four young men, God gave them knowledge and skill in all literature and wisdom; and Daniel had understanding in all visions and dreams."

Ecclesiastes 3:11.........
"God gave us the ability to think about his world, but we can never completely understand everything he does. And yet, he does everything at just the right time."

James 1:5......
“If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all liberally and without reproach, and it will be given to him.”

Carbon dating is not used as a means to date inorganic materials. Carbon-14 dating is a means used to date organic materials. It can be used to date organic materials up to approximately 60,000 years.

Of course, Major;

Back then people started by searching for answers, progress (better ways) before all these accomplishments were achieved. I'm still amazed how man arrived at the "formula and process" to better understand dating, determining materials and multiple years in the earth?!?

Origen, what say you, brother?

Bob, the dating has to do with comparing the amounts of carbon12 and carbon 14. Carbon 14 decays with time by about 50% every 5700 years; carbon 12 doesn't decay. Therefore, since the amount of carbon 12 remains constant we can know the original amount of carbon 14 in the sample before decay began. The age can be calculated by examining the current level of carbon 14 with the original level using the half life of 5700 years for each increment. This form of dating is only accurate to 50,000 years.

Hello BibleLover and Major;

Thank you both for sharing and responding. I'll need time to swallow all this.

God bless you both.

Isn't that a bit hard to do when you're speaking in terms of 50,000 years? (i.e., knowing the original amount of carbon 14.)
The accuracy of measurement doesn't go past 50,000 years, so things older than that cannot be accurately dated.

Within the 50,000 year limit, carbon 12 and carbon 14 are at the same levels once the organic substance ceases to produce carbon (i.e. "dies). Carbon 14 is radioactive and decays with what's called a half life 50% every 5700 years. So a kilogram of carbon 14 would lose 500 grams of mass in 5700 years, and then after 11,400 years the amount of mass would be 250 grams, then after 17,100 years, only 125 grams would remain. After another 5700 years only 62.5 grams would remain.

So, how do we know how a kilogram was the starting point? Because the amount of carbon 12 at the start was 1 kilogram, and after 22,800 years, there's still 1 kilogram of carbon 12 in the substance under examination but only 62.5 grams of carbon 14.

Did that clear up things a bit?

Hello BibleLover;

I appreciate your teaching. I'm going to chew on this.

Thank you.

So how do they know "Carbon 14 decays with time by about 50% every 5700 years?" How long have they been observing the properties of carbon-14?

Biblelover is correct. The archaeologist, Stuart Manning identified variations in the carbon 14 cycle at certain periods of time throwing off timelines by as much as 20 years. The reason for this, the team believes, could be due to climatic conditions in our distant past.

Because of the fact that dino bones have NO carbon in them, carbon 14 is not used in dating them.
However, Dinosaurs, are instead dated with radio-metric method.

Hey brother, to say I am amazed is an understatement. What we (Humanity) has done in the last 200 years is unbelievable.

I remember when TB was a death sentence.
I remember when Polio was a death sentence.
I do not remember small pox but I got the scare from the vaccination because mama said I was going to get it.
I do remember we had an outhouse and a telephone was something no one had.

We have come a very long way!

Since 1940.

Carbon-14 dating works by comparing the ratio of carbon-12 to carbon-14 in a sample to that in a living organism, allowing for the determination of the age of formerly living things fairly precisely.

The half-life of carbon-14 is 5,700 years, making it reliable for dating organic matter up to about 60,000 years old, with a formula provided to calculate the conventional radiocarbon age (CRA) of a given sample.

While carbon-14 is commonly used for dating, the principle applies to other isotopes as well, such as potassium-40 and uranium-235, but the accuracy of radioisotope dating may be compromised for anything that dies after the 1940s due to changes in carbon ratios from nuclear activities and fossil fuel burning.
