Were any here once part of a cult then?

Hmmmmmm....Interesting thread.

Being a big fan of rock in roll may have been considered a cult to me. I lived and listened constantly to rock growing up, played in a rock band during my teens and attended a lot of concerts.

Until Mark Farner of Grand Funk Railroad (Flint, Michigan) gave his life to Jesus back in the mid to late 1980's, it was the same time my wife (27) and I (28) as a newlywed couple came back to Christ after sampling the world.

I'll always enjoy the genre classic rock but with much less intensity and more emphasis on God first.

I had joined the Mormon church for a brief time. God showed me the error of their teachings and led me to leave them. After a long period of time HE then led me to a wonderful pastor named Carl Young in Virginia.

had i been near some concerts i would have went

Don't look now, but he was superseded by Coach Saban as best bama coach all time
Well....that actually depends on how one looks at it.

The Bear won 323 and lost 85.
He won 15 SEC conference titles and 6 national titles.

Coach Sabin won 297 and lost 77.
He won 12 conference titles and 6 national titles at Alabama.

Much of the “program infrastructure” at Alabama by which Saban benefited -- fan and booster enthusiasm, administrative support, national and regional prestige -- exists because of Bryant’s success in Tuscaloosa.

Also, Bear Bryant had THREE “uncrowned” teams, notably 1966, 1974 and 1977, all of which would have had a chance to win national titles under the modern system. So had he been around for the BCS or College Football Playoff, Bryant might have won as many as nine national championships.

Both were great, but think Sabin had to face much better compitition during his time at Bama, and he also won a title at Lsu

Good morning, Jerry;

Thanks. Maybe I wasn't cultic.

I was thinking cultic because the many concerts I attended on Saturday night with thousands of other fans. The San Diego Sports Arena and the Stadium would hold from 10,000, 16,000 and 52,000 respectively. All had one thing in common toward the band.

There was more enthusiasm at the concert than at Church. Then we would sleep in on Sunday.

YIKES! I was 14 to 23 years old at that time.

sometimes its still that way a quote from storman norman the lead general in dessert storm .. you can have the biggest army in the world , if they dont have the will to fight there not going to be effective.. its same in the church no want to no desire you can have a thousand in service and not be effective...

Yes sir, but I was just listing the time at Bama.

I really do not think the players of today can be compared to those Bryant coached against.

Consider who Bryant recruited, not paid or NIL money buy went out and recruited. His men he recruited and coached are the whos who of footballl----------
Joe Namath(Super Bowl winner) ....
Kenny Stabler(2xSuper Bowl Winner)....
Don Hutson....(NFL player)
Vince Lombardy(Pakers coach won 2 super bowls)...
Bart Star(2 Super Bowls)....
Mark Reichert (Ga. head coach & 2 Nat, Champs at FSU).......
Philip Fulmer....(Tenn. coach & Natioanl champs)..........
Frank Beamer (Va Tech long time coach)....
Howard Schnellenberger ( National Champ)

Sabin was a great coach, no doubt....but he stood on Bryants shoulders.

I am a Mi wolverine fan, and our greatest coach Bo won Zip, yet Lyyod Carr and Coach Harbough won one each

I agree 100%.

I spent a career trying to teach the church that it is OK and acceptable to be enthusiastic in church! Clap your hands, stand and raise your hands and shout out Glory to God!

I will add to that that the church will respond to a reserved, quiet and demeanered preacher with the same kind of the response that he gives out. If he gives a message in a "talk" that promotes sleepiness, he will only get snoring from his congregation.

The concept of reverence it deeply rooted in the church concept!

Good morning, Major;

I had to chuckle at the preacher part. I used to fume when standing at the pulpit I could see the one or two whose eyes were heavy or heads leaned back sleeping. I was tempted to stop and wake the person up, but God humbled me to just keep preaching. lol!

God bless you.

Bob
