How do I know if the Holy Spirit is within me?

As a Christian how do we know that the Holy Spirit is living in us?

by their FRUITS :)

I thought 2 verses below will help, will no longer expound as I usually present my view in a way that usually makes more things complicated, haha :)

Matthew 7:15-20 New King James Version (NKJV)You Will Know Them by Their Fruits
15 “Beware of false prophets, who come to you in sheep’s clothing, but inwardly they are ravenous wolves. 16 You will know them by their fruits. Do men gather grapes from thornbushes or figs from thistles? 17 Even so, every good tree bears good fruit, but a bad tree bears bad fruit. 18 A good tree cannot bear bad fruit, nor can a bad tree bear good fruit. 19 Every tree that does not bear good fruit is cut down and thrown into the fire. 20 Therefore by their fruits you will know them.

Galatians 5:22-23 New International Version (NIV)
22 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, 23 gentleness and self-control. Against such things there is no law.

Anyway, on the second thought, will still expound it :)

A Bible verse containing principle or a teaching or a reminder to a “community of men” can be applicable to “individual”, in my opinion.

In the same manner in SECULAR things: an individual right to defend oneself (self-defense) can go up to the thought of the right of a nation defending itself from foreign aggression (national defense/security)

In the same manner in the reminder to the “7 Churches” in Revelation is addressed to “Church” or “Community of people” but it can be applied to "individual"

Why I need to say it: the 2 verses below:

the 1st verse seems to refer to “fruits of community of men: ie: False Prophets and their students/followers” or can also be interpreted as “fruits of an individual: False Prophets and their own actions”

while the 2nd verse seems to refers to “emanating from individual as a fruit”

see how I make things complicated? Just a thought....from another student.... :)

Hello Alison;

You are asking a good question, for youself and all of us. Since you, being a Christian and believing in Jesus will receive the Holy Spirit. You will know that the Holy Spirit is in you during those situations in your life when you are filled with LOVE and compassion. Other times when you are challenged, you will get filled with courage, boldness and confidence. And in those moments when you have to make a decision, you will receive wisdom, insight, ability and authority.

In Acts 1:8, 8 But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth.”

Please read and meditate on John 14:26, 26 But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, he will teach you all things and bring to your remembrance all that I have said to you.

In your daily life, Alison, please read your Bible. Please attend Bible studies, focus on your pastor's sermon. When the 12 disciples believed in Jesus as the Son of God, He promised that the Holy Spirit would help them remember what He had been teaching them.

Now, here is the magnificence of God. In those moments when you don't know what to say or how to say to Him in your prayers;

In Romans 8:26, 26 Likewise the Spirit helps us in our weakness. For we do not know what to pray for as we ought, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us with groanings too deep for words.

We all are already praying for you, Alison, and hope the posts and these scriptures will help you know when the Holy Spirit is living within you.

God bless you and your family.

Have you received the holy spirit? Well think back to when you first asked Jesus into your life.
I remember when that happened, I cried out "abba" Father... in an unknown tongue. See what happened was the holy spirit was giving me utterance. Other things happened as well, I could read the Bible and He would speak to me through scripture and help me to understand His word. And He helps me pray and share Jesus with others.

Romans 8:25 and Galatians 4:6 tell us we have been adopted by God. When we bear fruit i.e good works and character of becoming more like Christ we display how we are growing in the Lord.

Hi, there. You seem quite interested in learning about the Holy Spirit. I would suggest reading the writings of the Apostle Paul in the new testament.

The Word of God says that we receive the Holy Spirit the minute we accept Jesus into our hearts/lives and we become born again Christians.
You can trust that what the bible says is correct.

John 3:5-16
5 Jesus answered, “Truly, truly, I say to you, unless one is born of water and the Spirit he cannot enter into the kingdom of God. 6 That which is born of the flesh is flesh, and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit. 7 Do not be amazed that I said to you, ‘You must be born again.’ 8 The wind blows where it wishes and you hear the sound of it, but do not know where it comes from and where it is going; so is everyone who is born of the Spirit.”

Ephesians 1:13-14
13 In Him, you also, after listening to the message of truth, the gospel of your salvation—having also believed, you were sealed in Him with the Holy Spirit of promise, 14 who is given as a pledge of our inheritance, with a view to the redemption of God’s own possession, to the praise of His glory.

Step out on faith and talk to the Holy Spirit. The Word of God says it was better for Christ to go so He could send the Helper (Holy Spirit) to us.

John 16:7
7 But I tell you the truth, it is to your advantage that I go away; for if I do not go away, the Helper will not come to you; but if I go, I will send Him to you.

The Holy Spirit leads us into truth and understanding producing Wisdom. Every morning when I pray I say hello to God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit. Your faith will also start to build up and become stronger as you begin to pray. The Holy Spirit will lead you into truth. Ask him to reveal himself to you and to help you start this new journey of discovering the Holy Trinity of God. If you ask, be prepared to receive. He will talk with you, lead you, teach you, and your walk with God will become stronger.

If you ever need anything, please reach out. You are starting a wonderful journey. You don't have to walk it alone. We are all here to share and help each other grow. Take care.

Acts 2
22 Ye men of Israel, hear these words; Jesus of Nazareth, a man approved of God among you by miracles and wonders and signs, which God did by him in the midst of you, as ye yourselves also know:
23 Him, being delivered by the determinate counsel and foreknowledge of God, ye have taken, and by wicked hands have crucified and slain:

On the day of Pentecost Peter stands up in the middle of town and yells "Everybody listen to me!" Then he accuses them all of murder. This is Peter, the same flake who was unhinged because a maid recognized him just 50 days before.

The one unmistakable symptom of being born again is this tremendously strengthened personality, the same thing that atheists find so annoying.

Galatians 5:22-23 New International Version (NIV)
22 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, 23 gentleness and self-control. Against such things there is no law.
As a Christian how do we know that the Holy Spirit is living in us?

If we love or accept Jesus Christ more, the Holy Spirit resides in the temple of the body as an electric force.

John 16.13 ESV.
When the Spirit of truth comes, he will guide you into all the truth, for he will not speak on his own authority, but whatever he hears he will speak, and he will declare to you the things that are to come.

How are we to understand this above verse.?

The guiding into truth part I get. if I have a headache, He will surely let me know, right?
but I dont understand what the last parts mean.

what does 'he will not speak on his own authority mean'?
and how does he declare to us the things that are to come?.

I cannot predict what will happen tomorrow...
this last part of the verse surely cannot mean He will make us psychic! the bible says we cannot know what will happen tomorrow(proverbs 21;1)

the only thing that comes to mind here, is He will make known eternal things about the world (biblical truths and eternal truths, )

thoughts?

"siddhikoli"......I hope that you are well. We all here appreciate you reaching out for more Bible truth.

"How does anyone know they have the Holy Spirit"...........A CHANGED LIFE!

The Bible teaches that anyone who accepts Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior receives God’s Holy Spirit at the moment of salvation:
Ephesians 1:13-14........
“In him you also were sealed with the promised Holy Spirit when you heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation, and when you believed. The Holy Spirit is the down payment of our inheritance, until the redemption of the possession, to the praise of his glory”.

To be a Christian is to have the Holy Spirit living in you: Romans 8:9.........
“You, however, are not in the flesh, but in the Spirit, if indeed the Spirit of God lives in you. If anyone does not have the Spirit of Christ, he does not belong to him”.

So what do we now know?????? If you have, by faith, received Christ as your Savior, then you have the Holy Spirit. Acquiring the Holy Spirit happens at salvation. All true believers possess the Holy Spirit as a seal marking them as a child of God.

Since YOU have stated that YOU have believed upon and accepted the Lord Jesus as the Christ then YOU now have the Holt Spirit IN YOU.

YOU then as a believer live by faith not needing to see anything to validate what you have already said you did!!!!

To be filled with the Holy Spirit is to be empowered and controlled by the Spirit, to experience renewal, obedience, boldness to witness and share the gospel, and freedom from the power of sin.

Now allow me to say to you with out any malice, you are free to believe that the Holy Spirit is an "electric force" if that makes you feel better...........However I must say to you that the Holy Spirit is a PERSON and not a force, and someone has given you some bad teaching.

You see.......A mere force could not be the spiritual legal advocate for Christians, who aids them in times of trouble or encourages Christians—only a living being could do this.

Notice, also, that Jesus called the Holy Spirit another Helper. Just as Jesus acted as the disciples’ paraklete or Helper, so too does the Holy Spirit act as our Helper today. As our Helper, the Holy Spirit teaches us all things and brings to our remembrance all that Jesus taught in John 14:26.

He also bears witness about Jesus as told to us in John 15:26-27.
How could another Helper like Jesus be an inanimate object or a FORCE??????

Furthermore, how could an inanimate object teach or bear witness? Notice how Jesus also explicitly called the Holy Spirit a “he,” rather than an “it.”

On guiding into truth, the Spirit guides us as to what is true teaching, as opposed to false teaching, and what is right and wrong.
As to "speak on his own authority", even Jesus said that he did not speak out of his own authority, but Jesus and the Holy Spirit speak what the Father has given them to speak.
In the last part, no, you don't become psychic, but the Spirit can give you foreknowledge of events just as John was given future events in Revelation. The next verses kinda give us a hint of what these things to come are:
John 16:
14 He will glorify me, for he will take what is mine and declare it to you.
15 All that the Father has is mine; therefore I said that he will take what is mine and declare it to you.

Hi Big Moose.

The trouble with me(and this may well have to do with being more gullible or easily deceived more, AKA Eve deception) is I dont always know what true teachings are.
I have been tossed about from pillar to post to what is a true teaching. Sometimes I think I know what something means. questions come up like:

1) Is the prosperity gospel a true christian teaching? if not why not?. I haven't quite gotten an acceptable answer here. Praying for things out of greed may well be unacceptable for some people, but I also dont know what is in their hearts, and I also see some people who are ultra wealthy doing great things with their money and have a spirit of discernment. One of my favourite people happens to be a billionaire, (warren buffet) and I dont know if he set out to be rich but he showed interested in economics from an early age. He seemed to have the talent to spot things others could not and worked hard and so created his fortune. is this greed? I dont know.

2) is ALL sickness from sin? like if I get a toothache, is that always because I have eaten something bad. could it be that teeth naturally just dont last forever and will eventually fall out or rot.

As to what is right or wrong I thoroughly agree with. I do see how the Holy Spirit works in me to convict me.

That is the primary way I see Him work.

Thanks for bringing this to my attention. And Please by all mean, if I have read you wrong to correct me.

Blessings, and Peace be with you.

Major,

I partially agree with what you say, but as I still sin☹️ I have not completely totally changed.

I have asked The Lord to remove the sins I still struggle with, and maybe all in His good timing.

Do you think the initial Salvation only removes the original sin (Not the catholic one, but rather the one that was causing us the most suffering first.)

as this is what I am coming to believe happened at my Salvation. Like the sun does not just set and switches the light off. It takes time.

there will always be struggles/ sin that comes against you.. the mere fact you know you battle them and ask the Lord to remove them. shows the Holy Spirit active in your life . called the spirit of truth . honestly i know a lady that was raised catholic . she is saved and when you listen to her talk in sunday school class. you could still hear some of the old teaching come out.

when we get saved God gives us the Holy Spirit. we learn as we go how to listen to the still small voice who tells us what is right what is wrong.

we all have to grow in the grace and knowledge your not a perfect human being none of us are . i still have issues of my past i have to deal with ..

just keep in the word and praying. when you sin ask God to forgive you .move on after you repented turn away from the sin they call it Grace

the weirdest thing is this:

I actually made a promise NOT to carry on the same sin, and woe betide me, I DID!

Thats how strong sin is in me and thats how I know for sure I am still a sinner.

When I was in bible class last week, my teacher (who is 97years old and going strong😁) said he met a lady who said she didn't need to become a christian as she was a good enough person already!

He told her that we are all sinners and it has nothing to do with how good we are.She didn't believe him. One time I would have agreed with her but since I notice I just cannot stop sinning without His help I have realised the truth of this.
