People you identify with in the Bible

Share who you identify with in the Bible. The stories in the OT are for our learning right? They were about people just like us who had faith and were called by God, are there any that resonate with you? What about Jesus, how is the life he lived on earth similar to yours? In what ways?

For me. I had been reading Daniel lately and identify with much he went through. Daniel was taken captive by the Babylonians to serve royalty in the Kings court. He had to learn the ways of the Babylonians and they even changed his name. He was under pressure to worship the idols they worshipped and eat the foods they ate. If he prayed to God, he got in trouble. His supervisors or overseers were bullying.

That is so much like my work experience for unbelieving bosses!

Theres also Ruth. Ruth left her homeland and culture to go with the Israelites. She had a lowly job gleaning in the fields. When you take a job like that, you are exposed to all dangers. You have no protection or security. Thank goodness for Boaz, her kinsman redeemer.

Although Im not a destitute widow like Ruth, being single in the workplace is not a piece of cake. If female, you get hit on by men all the time you working. Thank God I have a kinsman redeemer in Jesus.

Jesus suffering. Apart from his cruxifiction, which was extraordinarily physically painful, he suffered emotional pain as well. People didnt like him. He was mocked and not taken seriously. He had a message but many refused to listen. I identiify with Jesus emotional suffering. He wept for his people, even his own family because they didnt believe.

What about you?

Many persons forget (or are not taught) that the Old Testament and the New Testament, as read in order together, is a chronological history of the ancestors of Jesus from Adam through his son Seth all the way to Mary, daughter of Heli.

I have always admired the scriptures concerning Melchizedek, as a King and as a high priest (teacher) of God. Christ Himself is referenced as, "a priest forever in the order of Melchizedek." ( Hebrews 5)

Do you identify with Melchizidek, Gary? In what way...? Melchizidek was in Abraham's time, so he does not even belong to the Levitical priesthood which came much later, in fact he is superior to them!

Yes many of these people in the Old Testment are Jesus ancestors. The Old Testament or Hebrew Bible is a history book as much as it is books of wisdom and prophecy. We have entered the blessings of Abraham, via adoption therefore we are part of Jesus family, which includes the many faithful saints mentioned in the Bible.

I edited my post to exclude the word "Levitical". Perhaps I was unclear. The priest line of Melchizedek, who pre-dated the patriarch Levi by five generations, would eventually influence the Tribe of Levi and as such, the traditions of past teachers would be carried on in some way by the Levitical Priests.

Modern teachers of God's Word can identify in some way, with all such teachers in Biblical history.

[I will be unable to continue in this thread due to available time limitations at CFS from my own Chapel office responsibilities this time of the year.]

Thats cool Gary. We believers are all in the priesthood and its of the order of melchizidek because of Jesus.
I dont know about people giving tithes to us but certainly we can bless people with our words. And giving out bread and wine isnt that something you do at least once a month to celebrate the Lords supper/communion?
The order of melchizedek is eternal and isnt dependent on lineage - being a son of Aaron like the levitical priesthood was. Hebrews 7:3 does show that it is superior and eternal.

When was teaching bible in schools I do remember students givng me chocolate at the end of the year as thank you. I was in a position to bless them and feed them, like a priest I suppose! And it didnt matter who my father and mother were.
They said they still rememeber the day I bought them scones and figs to eat as we were telling the story of abigail.

Abigail is another person in the Bible who many woman might identify with..especially wth this christmas season. Company is coming. Lol. Showing hospitality can avert a crisis.

At one time we had a womans bible study about Mary and Martha. Some of us identified with Martha and some of us with Mary. Both women loved Jesus but showed it in different ways.

I imagine Martha to be the bigger older sister and Mary to be younger. I definitely identify with Mary being younger and perhaps a bit wayward. I would not always be helping in the kitchen! I would be wanting to listen to Jesus and sit at his feet. Being scolded by my big sister, yep, that happened all the time (and still happens)
