1 Kings 3:1-2

1 Kings 3:1-2 King James Version (KJV)

3 And Solomon made affinity with Pharaoh king of Egypt, and took Pharaoh's daughter, and brought her into the city of David, until he had made an end of building his own house, and the house of the Lord, and the wall of Jerusalem round about.

2 Only the people sacrificed in high places, because there was no house built unto the name of the Lord, until those days.

An American English Bible
With Old Testament based on the Greek Septuagint

1 Well, under Solomon, the kingdom was united.

Then Solomon contracted a marriage with PharaOh, the king of Egypt. He took the daughter of PharaOh and brought her to the city of David. However, before that, he completed the building of his palace, the Temple of Jehovah, and the wall around JeruSalem.

2 Now, before the Temple was built, the people were burning incense [to Jehovah] in the high places.

These are my thoughts, please share yours.

1 He made a marriage agreement that most likely was not supported by God; this would be the decisions that would be his down fall. Choosing our own way will catch up to us in time even if it seems good for a long time. Solomon would be best known for making the temple of the Lord.

2 David wanted to build a temple but was told no by God, worship was still being done in a tent; this had a purpose when they were in the desert but now that they were in the Promised Land they could have a permanent building for their worship to the Lord.
