2nd Opinion at My Former Dentist

Good morning, brothers and sisters;

In September I had a crown put in. My current dentist of three years told me I had to have gum surgery and would require a periodontist to come in and consult me. I met with the periodontist and she explained the gum surgery procedure beside my gums being swollen. YIKES!

I admit I've always had a phobia with dental visits but this recommendation for gum surgery didn't sit well with me. Something didn't feel right so I decided to get a second opinion. I had never requested a second opinion when it came to my health. I contacted my former dentist of 28 years and made an appointment.

I've been in prayer since September regarding my dental situation. I surrendered all my trembling and the "what ifs" in the Lord's Hands. I resigned at, if I have to have this surgery so be it. I chose to trust the Lord will be with me and I'll be in the care of the periodontist.

If anyone is aware of gum surgery, it's a detailed procedure and a big deal!

The night before the second opinion I admit I was stressed. I went in yesterday and after a full exam in the area of my gums in question, my former dentist being very careful with his words, told me it wasn't necessary to have this surgery and explained the reasons and reiterated the reasons I didn't understand. Even when I go in for my cleaning in January it would still not be necessary.

I can't predict what will happen 2 or 3 years but for now the second opinion felt right coming from my former dentist and I decided to trust his expertise besides his being a specialist in most dental procedures.

Keeping in mind my phobia and getting a second opinion, I still have the option of getting this surgery.

Being born in Lubbock, Texas, the drinking water there has natural fluoride in it so the roots of my teeth have always been strong. Still, I use non-alcoholic mouthwash, brush 2-3 times daily, floss and wear a nightguard, religiously. My teeth are almost 69 years old.

As we get older our health can be the topic in conversation and most of us have to pay more attention to our health maintenance.

This wasn't a sign and wonder thing, but an answer to prayer to overcome my doubts and decision, instead, totally trusting in the Lord.
