A believer and music

Hello God's people. Kindly help here.
Is it good for a believer to watch non Christian movies such as martial arts and also to listen to circular music? Your kind response will be highly appreciated.
Hello, brother, thank you for posting. I would say that if you can do anything and not
be spiritually effected by it then it is okay. However, if what you are doing offends a
fellow brother or sister then you should not. God gives us some liberty if what we are
doing is in moderation and not an outright sin. We can drink if we do not get drunk but some
cannot remain sober so they should not; or it may offend their spouse or other believer
and they should not. It really comes down to the relationship you have with Jesus and your
strength of character.

God gives us these words that can guide us here.

Philippians 4:8 Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things. (KJV)

If there is any good, virtue or merit that we can find, then it may be worthwhile. It is good though to be aware of what we are feeding our mind with. We each need to determine this for ourselves. I also think about would Christ want to spend time with me in whatever activity?

I have sometimes started a movie and discovered that it was not worthwhile and moved on to something else.

Romans 14:5 ........
"One person considers one day more sacred than another; another considers every day alike. Each of them should be fully convinced in their own mind.'

That means what is OK for me might not be OK for you. YOU must decide what is acceptable especially if you have young children with you.

Young children respond in a "monkey see monkey do" attitude. If you watch R and X rated movies and listen to gangster rap music, just don't get mad at them if they go out at 15 and rob a store and call you from jail.

circular music? Or do you mean secular? They sound the same I suppose!

I would say it's not especially beneficial.
For me, I remember enjoying a martial art movie, like a Jackie Chan movie, but they tend to be comedic, though they didn't really help me focus on God.
Secular music, I used to listen to it quite a lot but when I became a believer it had less appeal. My cds (I used to buy them) I gave them all away and I don't even bother seeking out movies anymore. When I didn't have God in my life they were like my 'play gods' i.e idols.

For both, I just wouldn't consider paying to see or hear them now. Why because God has other things for me to do and enjoy!

Because I'm a reader, of course I do read non-christian books from time to time, but because the Bible is so important to me I relate everything back to scripture. I don't particularly enjoy a lot books that are written by athiests or non believers and I am aware of not letting them influence me or agreeing with them too much. Cos they are not inspired. Some I would not pick up though God gives me discernment in that area.

I would suggest nothing is evil of its own self save the evil one. Secular music is music inspired from earth it can lift up a person or move one to rebel. .

The songs the Hebrews sang were inspired from God who is shown coming singing to the hearts of His children . The whole book of Psalms is likened a song book, like the Song of Songs a parables that hides the good new gospel meaning .

Zephaniah 3:17 [Full Chapter] The Lord thy God in the midst of thee is mighty; he will save, he will rejoice over thee with joy; he will rest in his love, he will joy over thee with singing.

The enemy dance to their own tune. They danced for Jesus .Jesus was not moved. It pleased Herod .the Rock Star (lol)

Matthew 11:17 And saying, We have piped unto you, and ye have not danced; we have mourned unto you, and ye have not lamented.

Mark 6:22 And when the daughter of the said Herodias came in, and danced, and pleased Herod and them that sat with him, the king said unto the damsel, Ask of me whatsoever thou wilt, and I will give it thee.

In that way it’s the spirit of the matter to some the songs inspired by god the smel of death to other the same song the smell of new born again life.

Do the Jesus shuffle.

"I would suggest nothing is evil of its own self".

Interesting thought. I would suggest that that is a "philosophical argument."

I think that "Evil" is that which is contrary to the will of God and which is of malevolent intent. It is a moral category. It is what is immoral and counter to God's holiness. There are different ways in which evil can be defined. But, biblically speaking, it is anything that is contrary to the holy character and will of God. Evil is wickedness, an attempt to cause unnecessary harm, to deceive, etc. It is an attitude of malice.

Of course, Things are not evil A rock, a cloud, or water are not evil by nature. They are things. But, actions performed by people are different than objects because people have motivation behind their actions. If I break someone’s arm to save his life, that is not evil. But if I break his arm for merely my personal pleasure because I want to watch him suffer, then that is evil because in the Christian context it goes against the character of God by violating the commandment to love your neighbor as yourself.

Now then......what is "Philosophy".

Dr. J. Vernon MaGee says that it is like a blind man, entering a room painted black, with the lights out trying to catch a black cat.

Just thinking out loud..........read it or ignore it! Yur choice!

Hello brother Benja;

First of all, that is a beautiful photo of you, your wife and wonderful child. I can see by your question you have a parent's heart of being concerned.

We have a precious 3 year old niece who lives in our home. Her parents pray daily before they watch with their daughter a children's program or children's songs.

By looking at your child, our niece does not watch movies or listen to secular music where the lyrics or tone of music may hinder a child's mind and hearing at such a young, tender age.

As you may already know, there are children's cartoon and songs in Africa that protect the purity and innocence of infants and babies. Please pray with your wife, asking God to guide you in the upbringing of your daughter.

As much as you can, sit with her during these viewings can be healthy for bonding.

Please take one day at a time and cherish your daughter's infant stage. During her progressive baby stage to 5 years and older, prepare by prayer and/or pastoral care what is appropriate at that time. 🙏

God bless you, Benja, your wife and daughter.

Yes evil does not come from dead things .It was because of evil that God corrupted the rudiments of this world .In that way through them we do not know Christ the anointing teacher of God.

When Muhammad was asked who he thought Jesus was he said.......Jesus was a prophet, He is a good teacher.
Source: https://chick.com/battle-cry/article?id=What-Did-Mohammed-Think-of-Jesus

I do not mean to be argumentative, and you of course are free to use any name you think is good for you, but don't you think that a more appropriate name for Jesus Christ would be GOD in the Flesh or the God-Man instead of "the teacher of God"??????

Charles Stanley is a teacher of God.
Billy Graham was a teacher of God.
Paul was a teacher of God.
In fact I am a teacher of God.

However, only Jesus Christ is the God-Man, 100% God and 100% Man as He is the one and only Son of God the Messiah who is in fact GOD Himself!

May I ask you if you share that Biblical fact of who Jesus really is?

Thanks not a salvation issue. I would think more of how can we hear what the Spirit says to the churches. . denominations .The us in Christ.

He warns us of the antichrists many opposing teachers that do require a fleshly infalible interpreter to teach us rendering our savaior (the Father and or with the Son) their combined power the gospel usless, making faith without effect. . (1 John2 :27-28 )

1 John2 :26-27 These things have I written unto you concerning them that seduce you. But the anointing which ye have received of him abideth in you, and ye need not that any man teach you: but as the same anointing teacheth you of all things, and is truth, and is no lie, and even as it hath taught you, ye shall abide in him.

Each beleiver that obeys the lovining living commandment 2 Tmothy 2:15. . to study to show oneself approved unto God they are empowered to work it out.

Call no man one earth (the temporal seen) Good teaching Master as Lord. Jesus gave glory to the father. saying . . Not as I will but you Father.. a perfect example for us of thier mutual work promised in Isiaha 53 . . the peace of God as His understanding. His witness of faith .

Mark 10:16-18 King James Version (KJV) And he took them up in his arms, put his hands upon them, and blessed them. And when he was gone forth into the way, there came one running, and kneeled to him, and asked him, Good Master, what shall I do that I may inherit eternal life And Jesus said unto him, Why callest thou me good? there is none good but one, that is, God.

Personaly, I would break it down a little more than what the eye sees the temporal. . . First and foremost God is not a man as us (Job 9) demonstrated below

Job 33:12 Behold, in this thou art not just: I will answer thee, that God is greater than man.

In that way the witness of God who was there working in and with the affairs of men is greater than the witness of men. .( what they eyes see) .He not seen the witness of faith is the greater.

1 John 5:9 If we receive the witness of men, the witness of God is greater: for this is the witness of God which he hath testified of his Son.

I would suggest to serarch out what does the bible inform us of?

It does say call no man on earth good teacher for one is our good infallible teacher master as Lord our heavenly Father. Those who are moved to bring the word the will of will of another are apostles Like Jesus the chief messenger apostle who cried over and over “not as I will but as you father. . strengthen me to do the labor of your love.

2 Corinthians 11:4-6 King James Version (KJV) For if he that cometh preacheth another Jesus, whom we have not preached, or if ye receive another spirit, which ye have not received, or another gospel, which ye have not accepted, ye might well bear with him. For I suppose I was not a whit behind the very chiefest apostles. But though I be rude in speech, yet not in knowledge; but we have been throughly made manifest among you in all things.

Ephesians 2:20 and are built upon the foundation of the apostles and prophets, Jesus Christ himself being the chief corner stone;

It I believe helps us to know in that way we are nothing (false pride) . . . Christ must do the work of giving us his understanding as he form it in our new hearts . . . Revealing by flesh and blood is not a source of unseen faith. God revels it by His unseen Holy Spirit. Peter fell in false pride. The gospel is the key that the gates of hell could never prevail against not Peter as some teach.

Not what does man’s witness say (flesh and blood) but again the witness of faith .The faith that works in the whole new creation the bride of Christ the spiritual unsen house made up of many lively stones. .

2 Corinthians 4:13 We having the same spirit of faith, according as it is written, I believed, and therefore have I spoken; we also believe, and therefore speak

One faith as a work

In that way Abel was the first prophet sent with the gospel an apostle and the first recorded martyr .(witness)

1 Corinthians 3:7So then neither is he that planteth any thing, neither he that watereth; but God that giveth the increase. Now he that planteth and he that watereth are one: and every man shall receive his own reward according to his own labor.

It is there that many confuse the idea of how the gift of prophecy is accompanied with the gift as an apostles .. No pophecy to declare as the will of God no feet needed as a apostle. All the spiritual unseen gifts work together as one labor of love .

Jesus in John 6 said of his own flesh it profits for zero .

Regarding secular music --

I did see this movie yesterday it was actually called Yesterday, and it was about a struggling british singer who's manager asks for a miracle as his career is going nowhere. She supported him all through and he thinks he'll just give up his ambition/passion and be a teacher instead.

So what happens is one night while out bicycling a bus crashes into him. and he ends up in hospital and the same time there's a worldwide blackout. He wakes up and discovers that something strange has happened, when he sings a Beatles cover, the song Yesterday, all his friends look at him weird as if they had never heard the song before. They love it, and think that he wrote it!

It turns out everything the Beatles sang or did, has disappeared from the face of the earth, as if they never existed. He can't find them on google, and all their albums are missing, and nobody seems to have ever heard of their music.

So what happens is he has this idea to do some more gigs but only Beatles songs that he can remember, so he plays and sings them all. He gets raves and even a record producer wants him to record and do an album, he gets more fans, Ed shereen discovers him and wants him for a supporting act to a sold out concert in Wembley where more people fall in love with his songs (actually, the Beatles songs)

Well then his manager is quite pleased but has to let him go to chase his dream in LA, where he meets up with this evil Satan like agent who offers him the entire world for fame and money (and so she can get a cut of it too).

So what does he do? Well I won't spoil it for you I guess you have to watch it to find out.

I saw on Netflix, but that was the only movie on there that I've seen so far. My sis had a sub. They don't have a lot of purely christian content, I think theres something called Pureflix that's more christian/family based content.

I also saw 'Becoming' it was a doco on Michelle Obama, though I note it did film her when she was praying in a group. It is interesting to see those in higher up circles how they demonstrate their faith (or lack of it). Some proclaim their christianity, and others are more reticent about it, but I think there is no ONE prescribed way to be a christian, even amongst members of the same churches.

I think you just need to have a chat with God to help you choose what to watch and listen to. I work in a school library that has thousands of books. If I chucked out all the books that weren't religious I would have a very tiny collection as the non-fiction christian books are only in the 220s. (Amongst the 1000 dewey decimal numbers you can have)

I also manage a church library that has about 600 books. All of them christian. But I still need to go through and weed out the old ones.

God bless you my dear friend. I am certain that all you posted has a lot of meaning to someone. .....but it does not have anything for me.

You referred to Jesus as a "teacher" and I simply asked you ...............

"However, only Jesus Christ is the God-Man, 100% God and 100% Man as He is the one and only Son of God the Messiah who is in fact GOD Himself!

May I ask you if you share that Biblical fact of who Jesus really is?"

Would you like to answer that question now? You said HE was a teacher and the Bible says He is the Son of God, both man and God, the God-Man.
Who do YOU say that He is????

God is not a man as us .Does that have any meaning for you?

Some did experience the father working in him empowering Jesus when he was here living in corrupted flesh .Jesus said of his own flesh it profits for zero.

But we do not know him that way no more fore ever more .The one time demonstration of Him and the father is over. There wil not be another outward demonstration

2 Corinthians 5:16 Wherefore henceforth know we no man after the flesh: yea, though we have known Christ after the flesh, yet now henceforth know we him no more. Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.

Whats unclear. ,. . . 2 Corinthians 5:16? or the fact that he said his own flesh it profits for nothing? Many disciples followed him no more. What was the reason?

Is it good for a believer to watch non Christian movies such as martial arts and also to listen to circular music? Your kind response will be highly appreciated.
All depends on the content of either music or movies, as I love to listen to both secualr and Gospel Elvis, and do like some Chuck Norris films and Bruce lee ones!

First answer me this. Is it good for my wife to make me sit down and watch 'Little House on the Prairie', 'The Waltons', 'I Love Lucy' (all reruns)?
Well, if you want to see a few 'Christian' reruns, we have watched (and enjoyed) 'Do You Believe?',
'Amish Grace' and 'Magic of Ordinary Days' (there are others).

As far as music goes, I'm of the persuasion that the poison (if any) is in the lyrics, not the beat.
Christian Blues (an oxymoron?) is one of my favorite types.
