Hello, everyone. This new Forum Presentation will provide information about various types of Ministries. We can all participate in outreach type Ministries as either a Pastor or as a volunteer and we can make a difference in the lives of the persons that we reach out to.
A Calling; The Ministries - Missionary Work
When a person decides to do missionary work, there is a commitment involved that includes many travels under sometimes adverse conditions. It also includes accommodations that are sometimes less than comfortable, food that can be unfamiliar and language barriers that need the assistance of translator. However, doing missionary work also involves bringing the Gospel to many persons who have never been exposed to the Word of God. The rewards of doing missionary work are many and outweigh the hardships that may be encountered. Some missionary work takes place in schools, hospitals and impromptu meeting places. Missionaries are usually sponsored by religious organizations and their work may include evangelism, teaching, baptisms and sermons.

Deuteronomy 15:11 (ESV) For there will never cease to be poor in the land. Therefore I command you, ‘You shall open wide your hand to your brother, to the needy and to the poor, in your land.’
Ministering to the Homeless
There are many ways to help the homeless. We should keep in mind that this could happen to anyone.
If we can't help in other ways, at least acknowledge they are there... a greeting with or without a smile.
Perhaps we could purchase a take away meal for someone or even take them to a cafe.
Tell them Jesus cares and try telling them about the Gospel.
If you belong to a church, perhaps you could try forming a team for this ministry.
Maybe collecting funds from jumble (rummage) sales, coffee mornings, raffles, etc., and using the money to provide for the needs of the homeless. There is also voluntary work available in the shelters, for example preparing and serving meals.
This Ministry is full of opportunities to help the homeless.

Music ministry has many options and can vary, but usually includes participating in worship services, teaching music in a Sunday School setting and providing music for Church and Revival events. Making music for church gatherings can be very inspirational.

Quite some years ago, I saw a young child playing near the road, just outside her house, and no clothes at all. She looked about 4 years old. I had previously seen the same thing with another child, about the same age. Why didn't I think of buying clothes for them??
Love Thy Neighbor - Anointed Family
When a person is sick it brightens their day if we visit them. Perhaps we could take a get well card signed by other friends, too. Also a phone call can cheer the sick. Do they need something to eat and drink? Give them any messages or good news.
Jesus did many things for the sick. We should do whatever we can.

Prison Visiting
This can be a very sad yet rewarding thing to do. There are great opportunities to turn a life around. For example there was a young man who had been set up by his family, uncle and cousins. It was something to do with motor bikes and drugs. He was innocent in prison, not knowing anything about the incident. He became suicidal.
The Samaritans visited him in prison, encouraged him to study for exams, and he turned his thoughts to striving for a better life. He said the first thing he would do when released was to join the Samaritans.
The Golden Rule (Love One Another Version) - Worship for Everyone
Pastoral ministry is probably the most well known of all ministries. Pastors are tasked with preaching and teaching the Word of God and the Gospel of Jesus, giving spiritual guidance, counseling and developing church membership expansion. They can perform other duties such as presiding over worship services and officiating at weddings, baptisms and funerals.

There are many different reasons why a person may need counseling. Therefore a counselor may specialize in one or more area.

When a counselor decides to lead a group, it is usually very successful. The persons in the group are all suffering from the same thing and understand each other. This may be a group of the same mental illness, losing faith, drug addiction, alcoholics and others.

There are other areas of counseling that may call for 1 to 2, or 1 to 1 counseling. These may include problems with marriage, suicide, loss of faith, or anything you can think of.
If you feel called to do this kind of work, you will get training at some colleges, internet universities, or voluntary organizations.
Youth ministry is concentrated specifically on young people. Youth Ministers work with youngsters and teenagers to help them better understand scripture, to develop a better relationship with God and to help coordinate faith based interaction and fellowship with others around the same age. Youth Ministers can supervise youth groups, organize field trips, provide counseling and provide one on one scriptural instruction for children and teens as needed. Youth Ministers are usually associated with Christian Organizations and Denominations and usually go through an in-depth background check, specialized training and certification.
