All in or all out

How often are we lackluster in our efforts? How often do we perform just enough to get by? We are a lazy bunch, doing just what we need to do. No more. No less. Jesus has strong words for such as we.

"I know your deeds, that you are neither cold nor hot. I wish you were either one or the other! So, because you are lukewarm—neither hot nor cold—I am about to spit you out of my mouth." (Revelation 3:15-16)

Great scripture 😁 another one I haven’t read before.

Yes most of the time I find myself being mediocre.
I believe in improvement but only when I feel like it.

I’m one of those people who is motivated by punishment and if it’s not imminent, it’s not important.

But sometimes I feel overwhelmed when I take on so many scriptures at once. But I feel this one is sticking already…

Thanks.

Paul, in his letters, shows a boundless energy. Would that we all were so passionate. The apostles in Acts had a similar energy. You'll notice a difference between the apostles in the four gospels vs acts. It's night and day once the Holy Spirit is at work.

Hello LearningToLetGo;

I hear this challenge of lackadaisical from our congregants all the time. Jesus knows this and this is why we need constant discipling and to be reminded daily;

We are empowered with Holy energy to get out there and complete the task or tasks given us by the Lord.

Isaiah 40:29, He gives strength to the weary and increases the power of the weak. - NIV

I hear you but in all honesty, I can not relate to it.

I had a father who taught me from birth to work hard. If anything was worth doing, do right and work hard.
That ethic was beat into me and has lasted to this very day.

I have now spent a life time of working hard. One does not have to be the best to be successful in life, just keep WORKING hard at it!

True story........in high school I went out for the basketball team. My school was a state power and in the previous year went to the State finals in Fl. and finished. I just liked playing but was the shortest player on the team. I was not really very good. The coach on the 1st day told me, you will probably not make this team, but son, WORK hard and show me something. I was in the 9th grade, playing with 12th graders but I out ran them all. I worked hard, got to practice early and stayed late.

That work ethic my father drummed into me so impressed the coach that he placed me on the team and by the 3 rd game I was playing and by the end of the year I was starting. The next year, the same team went undefeated and won the state championship in Fl. That bunch of young men worked hard, and it paid off. We were not the best talented but NO ONE out worked us!

I never got any discipline at home.
I was never disobedient but neither was I disciplined.
If takes twice as much oomf to work hard when it’s not something that is natural.
I have discipline myself and boy is it hard.

If I could look back now I would tell all parents to discipline your children. No wonder the Bible speaks of it highly.

But what I have noticed is when discipline is present motivation soon follows and then I find myself enjoying working hard and it’s all thanks to God!

Whoa! I just realized that even though he was speaking to a specific congregation it sounds like an average church goer. :( Some of us had better shape up!

My husband's grandfather was lazy. My husband's father, his paternal grandfather's oldest child, worked very, very hard and instilled that work ethic in his four sons. My husband worked two jobs most of his life even though he suffered a lot of pain. But his dad didn't go to church or talk about Christ or read the Bible.

But isn't the verse about zeal for Christ? What kind of discipline are you talking about? Wouldn't it be family prayer and Bible study like Corrie ten Boom's family?

Hello Desiring More Truth;

When you asked about zeal for Christ, were you referring to the church at Laodicea in Revelation 3:15-16?

By the way, I'm all in but need the Lord's work with my zeal.

This is where people kind of get put off by people who are 'middle-class' or 'middle of the road' because they have a comfortable life with no extremes and so they don't really know poverty or extravagance.

I think for me, sometimes I can grow weary of well doing, and in the past I suffered from depression a lot. But then I also had manic periods too!
Now I'm much more steady in my walk, and it's nice, but I always need a challenge otherwise I get bored.

I think churches that always cater to 'middle class' folks sometimes miss out on a lot. I also feel like I don't really fit in there either.

yea! Well if you need a tour guide or help planning, let me know.
p.s. we drive on the left side of the road.

I think a good way to see NZ is on a cruise ship that stops in all the ports if you don't want to drive.
You can then hop off onto a ferry to Stewart Island and stay there, then cruise back up or fly up to Auckland.
