Bible verses on judging a book by its cover

In today’s world, we are constantly judged by what we look like and how we are rather than what comes from the inside. It is not only from our appearances but also from our interests from those who think they know more than we do. For example, I’m hyped to see the Super Mario Brothers movie that’s just released in theaters, but I see scathing reviews saying that it’s really bad and I’m in idiot for thinking about watching it. But that’s a minor issue to a lot of you folks.

The verse I want to provide detail on is from Matthew 7 verses 1 and 2: “Do not judge, or you too will be judged. For in the same way you judge others, you will be judged, and with the measure you use, it will be measured to you.”

This is perhaps one of my favorite verses in the Bible as it tells us to let others be themselves for how they truly feel within. Just a little something encouraging to get off my chest, as I feel being judgmental is a burden.

Hello PTSDintheAsylum;

Here's a thought we all can chew on. If I am worried about an individual, society or the world judging by what I look like, then chances are I'm judging them.

Judging is associated with comparing and insecurities. Let the world beware.

Here's another thought we all can chew on. God is First, He is my Audience, Judge and He loves me just the way I am. But if I'm still hung up by the way an individual, society or world judges the way I look, then chances are God is not First, nor is He my Audience.

This is not minor to me but a major concern and I'm glad you got this off your chest. If you want to go see Super Mario Brothers, go see it!

I read your thread regarding socks and shoes and before reading it I never gave this matter a thought. But you are a grown up adult. If you want to go barefoot then go barefoot. I'm not going to judge you. That's my point.

God bless you, sister, and thank you for sharing.

Robert..........I am planning on running for President in 2024. It seems like Trump will be in jail and Biden in a nursing home.

One of my planks in my platform is......."People with UGLY feet must wear socks"!
Also, "overweight people can not wear bare midriff tops or hip hugger jeans!"

Can I count on your support and vote????????

1 Corinthians 4:3 KJV
But with me it is a very small thing that I should be judged of you, or of man's judgment: yea, I judge not mine own self.

Matthew 23:27-28 KJV
Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye are like unto whited sepulchres, which indeed appear beautiful outward, but are within full of dead men's bones, and of all uncleanness. [28] Even so ye also outwardly appear righteous unto men, but within ye are full of hypocrisy and iniquity.

I read books, I don't read a review before I read a book. That often happens AFTER I read one. (Otherwise, it would be a Preview) I can make my own decision whether I want to read a book or not. The cover may be what attracts me to the book or helps me find it, but it's actually the TITLE and maybe the author that I read first when looking for a book.

Book covers change all the time, they just protect the book. If its an e-book its just helps differentiate it from the rest. Some books have the same covers like penguin classic books all have the same orange covers.

As far as I know, Super Mario brothers is not a book, it's a movie. So it doesn't even have a cover. So not sure what the big deal is about it. If you want to watch it, watch it, if you don't, don't. You don't always have to watch what everyone else is watching. Movies are now things you can choose for yourself online.

If I don't like something, I don't make a big song and dance about not liking something. I save my words for something I DO like.

There are Bible verses on judging, judgement day, righteous judging, and an entire book called JUDGES, but I don't think there are any verses about judging a book by it's cover! Man sees the outward appearance, God looks upon the heart.

One thing is you can't always expect people who aren't christians, to be judging things righteously. Also non-readers obviously will not pick up a book and read everything inside. lol

We live in a society where the book of Judges says....... “everyone does what is right in his own eyes” !

That is what God said then and it is still what God says today. Today, people insist that there are no moral absolutes, that each man should decide for himself what is right or wrong, and that we should “tolerate” or “celebrate” sinful activities. Those who take seriously the biblical warnings against sin and dare speak out against evil are written off as religious fanatics, and all Christians are, ironically, judged as being “judgmental.”

It is my opinion that there is NO place for spiritual hypocrisy or pride. Christians can and must take a stand against sin, and sinful actions and activities but, even then, our dealings with others should be marked by grace, mercy, and humility.

However, hypocritical judging is the only kind of judging the Bible says that Christians should avoid.

We as Christians must make spiritual evaluations of the words and behavior of others, not to find fault, but to effectively guard our hearts against error and sin. In fact, immediately after Jesus warned His disciples against hypocritical judgment, He says in Matthew 7:6......
“Do not give dogs what is holy, and do not throw your pearls before pigs”.

How is the Christian supposed to know who the “dogs” and the “pigs” are unless he or she exercises discernment?

Love requires that we gently confront those in error with the truth about their sin with the hope of bringing them to repentance and faith and that can only be done by discerning judgment.
