Miriam - Sister of Moses, prophetess - Presentation (6-S)

Miriam was the daughter of Jochebed and Amram, and sister to Aaron and Moses. She watched pharoah's wife take baby Moses out of the river, but did not know how to look after him and offered to find a Hebrew woman who could nurse him. Miriam brought her mother who was then able to looke after her own baby.

Later in Exodus we learn how Miriam led the women singing and rejoicing with tambourines when the Red Sea parted.

Later when Miriam and Aaron questioned Moses' authority, God punished Miriam and she suffered with leprosy.

Exodus 2:5-8 (WEB)
5 Pharaoh’s daughter came down to bathe at the river. Her maidens walked along by the riverside. She saw the basket among the reeds, and sent her servant to get it. 6 She opened it, and saw the child, and behold, the baby cried. She had compassion on him, and said, “This is one of the Hebrews’ children.”
7 Then his sister said to Pharaoh’s daughter, “Should I go and call a nurse for you from the Hebrew women, that she may nurse the child for you?”
8 Pharaoh’s daughter said to her, “Go."

Exodus 15: 20-21 (ESV)
20 Then Miriam the prophetess, the sister of Aaron, took a tambourine in her hand, and all the women went out after her with tambourines and dancing. 21 And Miriam sang to them:

“Sing to the Lord, for he has triumphed gloriously;
the horse and his rider he has thrown into the sea.”
