Acts 24:24,25

Hello again,

I have just read two verses in Acts 24, concerning a visit to Paul, in prison, by Felix and his wife Drusilla, who was a Jewess. What struck me was the effect that Paul's words had on Felix: it says that, 'Felix trembled' (v.25).
What was it that Paul had spoken of, to produce such a reaction?

He spoke' concerning the faith in Christ', reasoning of 'righteousness, temperance, and judgment to come', and 'Felix trembled'.

This is the power of the gospel, untrammelled by human reasoning.

This is the work of the Holy Spirit in the world today:-
The Lord Jesus, said:-

'Nevertheless I tell you the truth;
It is expedient for you that I go away:
for if I go not away, the Comforter will not come unto you;
but if I depart, I will send Him unto you.
And when He is come,
He will reprove the world of sin, and of righteousness, and of judgment:
- Of sin, because they believe not on me;
- Of righteousness, because I go to my Father, and ye see me no more;
- Of judgment, because the prince of this world is judged'.
(John 16:7-11)

'Then saith He to Thomas,
"Reach hither thy finger, and behold my hands;
and reach hither thy hand,
and thrust it into my side:
and be not faithless, but believing.'
(John 20:27)

Hello there,

The words highlighted (above) 'be not faithless, but believing', came into my mind this week.

We do so need to actively believe God. To stay our minds on the truth, and positively affirm them to ourselves, allowing no thought to enter which would seek to destroy the confidence we have in the all-sufficient sacrifice of Christ on our behalf. That confidence is vital to our growth in Christ, and our peace.

'Cast not away therefore your confidence,
which hath great recompence of reward.'
(Heb.10:35)

This would be known as "prayer". Praying always with all manner of prayer and supplication in the Spirit. Keeping ones mind, and heart set on the things above causes an uninterrupted flow of communication between God and his child.
 
'What time I am afraid, I will trust in thee.
In God - I will praise His word,
in God - I have put my trust;
I will not fear what flesh can do unto me.'
(Psa 56:3,4)
