So I am doing a study on 1 Corinthians 13:4-13 and just tying to get some perspective on the differences between boasting and sharing because there seems to be a fine line between the two. I would like to eliminate any boasting and other evil tendencies I naturally operate from…so
what you think is the difference between someone sharing something exciting that’s going on in their lives and boasting. How would you tell? Is there a difference? Thanks people.

4 Love is patient and kind. Love is not jealous or boastful

Seems to me that they go hand in hand!

I am anxious to see what you say when you get to verses 8-13

Isn't sharing where you both take part doing something.

Boasting is where you just tell someone something in hopes of being praised. You can boast of your weakness and infirmities too. Paul did this because everyone else was boasting about their strengths.

I have often heard retired people in retirement villages boast about their ailments and how they got this or that surgery and spent this amount of time in hospital and lived to tell the tale.

Hello Lanolin;

The part I blue-lighted is what we call a humble brag. When we visited senior homes a lot of men and women did this. So what did I do? Listen.

Verses 1-3 seem to give us a clue. No matter what great thing you do, if you don't have love as a part of it, then it is nothing of value. So, if what you are sharing has no love for the other attached to it, then it is just boastful. What you share should be of some benefit to another person. Even if it is only to give the other person a chuckle, that has value for the other person since they may need their spirit lifted.

I liked hearing stories about people who survived the war. Like those who were in the blitz and had to hide in bomb shelters.
I wasn't so keen on people telling me they tripped over and broke their ankle or how they couldn't go to the toilet and had to wear nappies, or ate so much sugar they got diabetes, or stayed out in the sun with no clothes on and got fried and now have melanomas. But I suppose it's all learning for me on what not to do.

These days, with our aging heroes, all those go hand-in-hand.
