Casting Out Demons

It was common, especially among the Jews, for individuals to attempt to cast out evil spirits. If we resist the devil by faith in Christ, he will flee from us; but if we think we can resist him by using Christ's name, or His deeds, as a spell or charm, Satan will prevail against us.

This is the position I have taken in my commentary below; Seven Sons of Sceva (Acts 19:13-17)

Hello Tom Lowe;

Thank you for sharing your blog.

This was embarrassing for Sceva since he and his sons engaged in exorcism for profit. They were impressed by Paul's anointing but was missing the point. They didn't have a relationship nor faith in Christ Jesus.

This teaches us that no one can duplicate God's power without knowing Him.

Your thread is a good reminder. 8 For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God, Ephesias 2:8 - ESV

God bless you, brother Tom, and your family.
