Hello crossnote;

I view my conscious as being a definite part of me. I feel it's connected to my brain. My conscious functions daily in my surroundings, and how I receive or react to all things. My conscious can be hardened if I choose my free will or my free will toward obedience that aligns with God or His Word.

Explain in light of, God empowers us with wisdom, discernment, and knowledge as He guides our conscious to choose between obedience and disobedience.

God bless you, crossnote.

What is it?
Conscience is the knowledge of good and evil in the context of our actions. It is morality at work in our daily lives.

In light of Genesis, this could be an artifact of the Tree of Knowledge of Good and Evil. Hmm...

Is it apart from the individual?
Good question. I'd say it's one manner by which the Holy Spirit communicates with us so it's not necessarily part of us but is God connected to us.

I agree with "learning to let go".

Our Conscience, which we all have is the ability act or judge from our mind that which we decide is lawful or unlawful and by which we instantly approve or condemn those actions.. It exists in every man, and is a strong witness to our integrity or to our guilt.

That is a fancy way of saying that we know what is right or wrong when we see it.

The Bible portrays the conscience as a witness to something so when the Holy Spirit convicts us He is validating what we already know.

That is why Paul could say that the Gentiles have consciences that bear witness to the presence of the law of God written on their hearts, even though they did not have the Mosaic Law and the people before the Law was given because they knew what was right and what was wrong.
