BOW OR BURN.
King Nebuchadnezzar had a great golden image made. He sent word to gather all the governors, administrators, counsellors, judges and officials of the province to come to the dedication. Then when they heard the music they were to fall down and worship it or be cast into the fiery furnace.
Everyone did except Shadrach, Meshach and Abed-Nego. The king was in rage and fury and spoke to them, “Is it true that you do not serve my gods or worship the gold image which I have set up?” (Dan. 3: 14)
“If you do not worship, you shall be cast immediately into the midst of the burning fiery furnace. And who is the god who will deliver you from my hands?” (Dan. 3: 15)
The three Jewish men answered the king,
“O Nebuchadnezzar, we have no need to answer you in this matter. If that is the case, our God whom we serve is able to deliver us from the burning fiery furnace, and He will deliver us from your hand, O king.
But if not, let it be known to you, O king, that we do not serve your gods, nor will we worship the gold image which you have set up.” (Dan. 3: 16 - 18)
Shadrach, Meshach and Abed-Nego were bound and cast into the fiery furnace. Those men of the army who took the three Jewish men to the furnace were killed for the furnace was exceedingly hot.
In the fiery furnace however, the three Jewish men were unbound and walking in the fiery furnace. The king rose astonished and said, “Look I see four men in the midst of the fire, walking and unhurt. And the fourth is like the Son of God.” (Dan. 3: 24 & 25)
The king then went near the furnace and cried out to the Jewish men to come out. The administrators, governors, counsellors, all saw that the fire had no power over the three men. Not a hair of their head was singed not their garments affected and no smell of fire was on them. (Dan. 3: 27)
The king then said - “Blessed be the God of Shadrach, Meshach and Abed-Nego who sent His angel and delivered His servants who trusted Him, and have frustrated the king`s word, and yielded their bodies that they should not serve nor worship any god except their own God!” (Dan.3: 28)
Then he decreed that no one should speak against their God.
God revealed His great power over the elements, even the destroying of fire.
