Do you need help understanding prayer? - Encouragement

Hello you and welcome do you need help with understanding prayer?

Will you come and take a look at what Jesus Christ had said to his disciples in Luke Chapter 11 about prayer?

Maybe you are able to see something you did not noticed before; or maybe it has been a little while since you have come and have read it again or not see it at all for people who are new to the faith of the Lord Jesus Christ.

Luke Chapter 11

  • 1 Once Jesus was in a certain place praying. As he finished, one of his disciples came to him and said, “Lord, teach us to pray, just as John taught his disciples.”

  • 2 Jesus said, “This is how you should pray:
  • “Father, may your name be kept holy.
  • May your Kingdom come soon.
  • 3 Give us each day the food we need,
  • 4 and forgive us our sins,
  • as we forgive those who sin against us.
  • And don’t let us yield to temptation.”
In the first verse we are introduced to Jesus Christ praying maybe a distance away from the disciples. We see the disciples running over to him, asking the question. Lord, teach us to pray, just as John taught his disciples.

The Lord goes on to teach his disciples the example prayer which they should pray in verses two through four.

The Lord says, Father may your name respected, may your kingdom come.

So we see that the Lord is at first expressing that the Father's name should be respected, also that (for us now today) may that kingdom of God come and reside with us today. May the spirit be active with-in us now as believers today. As we are believing and having faith, coming to God and asking in what we are in need of.

The Lord expresses to the Father thank you for the word we receive (the bread of God that we live on that gives us strength when we read the about the word of God, which increases the spirit that is given, and the faith, trust we have relying on God.

The Lord expresses to the Father, thank you for forgiving us of our trespasses against you when we live by our own ways, and not your ways (forgiving our past mistakes and moving forward in relationship with God as we press forward in our faith as we continue to show our love toward that Father by reading and living in faith of the word of God (bread that is given.) We stay strong in the holy spirit the more we show love toward God, and you leave the world as you keep growing in faith. (All the world is - the pride of life, lust of the eyes, and lust of the flesh). We have all sinned against God but with this expression God is given we are forgiven for those sins we use to indulge in. Accepting God's forgiveness is truly a blessing, in return we receive a spirit this is life giving full of joy, love, forgiveness, mercy, peace, long suffering, faithfulness, goodness, kindness. Being renewed in our minds as we trust in God.

The Lord expresses forgiving others, no matter what they have done for we have received forgiveness, thus we to forgive others that may have done something bad to us; such as not showing love towards us as we have them, praying for those who make trespasses against you.

The Lord expression finally is let us not be lead into temptation. You have the freedom to ask the Lord to help you with any type of temptation that comes from our mind, and when we are starting to be enticed by our desires that comes from our heart, and mind. You have the ability to freely ask God; Please lead me not into *Whatever it is here* // for me it had been drugs and pornography for the longest time. Those desires finally were stopped when asking God to help me redirect my life and be dedicated in abstaining from those things that were ruining my life. God will work in and through you by the holy spirit that is given!

  • What do you find that is wrong here if there is anything wrong that has been stated by me?

  • If anything please add one something extra, to be helpful and encouraging towards others who may be new to the faith, or to help me in the walk with God too?

Luke Chapter 11

  • 5 Then, teaching them more about prayer, he used this story: “Suppose you went to a friend’s house at midnight, wanting to borrow three loaves of bread. You say to him, 6 ‘A friend of mine has just arrived for a visit, and I have nothing for him to eat.’ 7 And suppose he calls out from his bedroom, ‘Don’t bother me. The door is locked for the night, and my family and I are all in bed. I can’t help you.’ 8 But I tell you this—though he won’t do it for friendship’s sake, if you keep knocking long enough, he will get up and give you whatever you need because of your shameless persistence.
  • 9 “And so I tell you, keep on asking, and you will receive what you ask for. Keep on seeking, and you will find. Keep on knocking, and the door will be opened to you. 10 For everyone who asks, receives. Everyone who seeks, finds. And to everyone who knocks, the door will be opened.
  • 11 “You fathers—if your children ask for a fish, do you give them a snake instead? 12 Or if they ask for an egg, do you give them a scorpion? Of course not! 13 So if you sinful people know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to those who ask him.”
The Lord Jesus Christ goes on to explain more about prayer to his disciples.

He uses a worldly example of a man needing some bread, who goes to a friends house but at first rejects him because him and his family are already in bed sleeping, and the door had been locked. If you keep knocking (Praying) persistently you will receive an answer.

The Lord Jesus Christ explains to keep on asking you will receive what you ask for, to keep on knocking the door will be open, to keep on seeking and you will find.

The Lord expression is overall saying.

Keep praying, about everything that is going on your life that you need help with. Not what you want, but what you need help with. This can be anxiety issues with others, family issues going on, to help you trust God, to help you increase your faith by reading the word of God if you choose to, to help you with the holy spirit that resides in you to deal with a situation that involves others by forgiving but to keep having reconciliation with people in your life it is possible. Help with figuring out how to do something in your life that is perplexing because God will give you wisdom if you ask for it, and he will not rebuke you for it. Unless your asking for help with wrong motives, then a man should not expect anything from the Lord who is double minded and swinging back and for like a pendulum.

You will receive help, you will see the truth if you ask God for his help, the door of opportunity will be open as long as we hold on to the hand of God and trust in him, being humble and gentle, forgiving others, and binding ourselves with unity of the holy spirit.

Hope this helps you out in your relationship with God.

God bless you and your families.

If there is something else you would like to add please do so to help others understand, and myself. Thank you.

Luke 18:1 And he spake a parable unto them to this end, that men ought always to pray, and not to faint;” ( give up /lose heart ) when praying through on any thing .warfare comes into play we start wondering why has it not been answered. why was not my loved one healed? lets be honest we all been there at some time. James calls it the prayer of faith. many like to recite the lords prayer which in reality it is a model prayer Jesus said pray in this manner .not these words. . Christ prayed for us in John 17.. what i do know is i am to pray in faith believing and with out FAITH it is impossible to please God.. the Bible does say he is a rewarder of those who diligently seek him this day and age we need pray even more

Psalms 55:17

“Evening, and morning, and at noon, will I pray, and cry aloud: and he shall hear my voice.” the greatest prayer we can say is LORD HELP ME

Let us not forget that prayer comes from the heart and not the mind.

I like to remember that we actually are coming to the very presence of the Almighty God in his throne room at all hours of the day. It is not a light thing to pray and have such access to God.

Hebrews 4:14-16 Seeing then that we have a great high priest, that is passed into the heavens, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold fast our profession. 15 For we have not an high priest which cannot be touched with the feeling of our infirmities; but was in all points tempted like as we are, yet without sin. 16 Let us therefore come boldly unto the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy, and find grace to help in time of need. (KJV)

Remembering that I'm coming to God Almighty in his throne room, reminds me of his awesome power, capabilities and his great lovingkindness. It also helps me to be in the proper attitude of respect and love.
