Today my pastor sent me an encouraging text that said:
No temptation has overtaken you that is not common to man. God is faithful and he will not let you be tempted beyond your ability, but with the temptation he will also provide the way of escape, that you may be able to endure. I Corinthians 10:13 ESV Bible
As I thanked him for the encouraging text, I thought about how David in I Samuel 30:4 had to encourage himself in the Lord. It is good for us to encourage one another. But, remember you have the Word at hand.”The word is nigh thee, even in thy mouth, and in thy heart” as is written in Romans 10:8 leading up to the Roman road confession of faith to be saved,
Jesus is the Word of Life. In His Word He has given us many promises. We need to learn to take those promises and affirm them to ourselves. This will help us go grow in faith and to be strong in the Lord.
The enemy’s job is to discourage the children of God. Another pastor was preaching about Satan “contending” with the saints. He will try to wear you down. He comes against you with anything in his arsenal that he can: sickness, poverty, rebellious spouses, and rebellious children.
Instead of tearing out your hair in despair, turn to the Word. What does it say about your situation? Speak the Word to yourself whether in season or out. Claim it for yourself. As Jesus is the Word, it will draw you closer to Him.
Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom; teaching and admonishing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord. Colossians 5:16
