12. For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.
13. Wherefore take unto you the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand.
We often think we have a handle on the nature of the battle that rages within, the old man versus the Spirit. But the reality is we are only conscious of front line activity. We are not able within ourselves to overcome the tactician, our enemy. The tools of our fallen nature (intellect) are no tools at all. We can't obtain real peace by using the weapons of war. We can't die to self when self is trying to do it.
God grant us a humble heart to stand in Him.
