HALLOWEEN!

Halloween is just a couple of months away. I thought I would ask how the forum feels about Christians participating in this event.
Regardless of the origins of Halloween, the more pressing question for today’s Christians is this: What does Halloween look like in our current culture, and how should we respond to it?

Maybe it is just ME, maybe it is just being convicted or growing in Biblical knowledge but when I was growing up at home, my parents never questioned if we “should” celebrate the event–there was never a belief that what we were doing was evil or unbiblical.

After I matured, got married and had kids, I was challenged by many Christians who thought Halloween should be ignored. The two Christian schools that my children attended treated October 31 as any other day, and encouraged parents to study the history of Halloween, which I did = conviction!

In my own neighborhood, some families decorate with cheerful pumpkins, lights, and scarecrows—evoking a harvest theme. Others, however, create disturbing, grotesque displays that glorify death, horror, and darkness and evil spirits and demons.

I am very disturbed to see more and more local churches participating in Trunk or Treet and Fall Festivals on Oct 31 st.

Is this a problem for YOU or do you think it is acceptable for Christians to be involved in death, demons, vampires and so on?????

Halloween is the devil's Christmas. People who celebrate it are, in fact, engaging in devil worship. As for Christians who celebrate it, they probably suffer a dilemma when October 31st falls on a Sunday: do they worship God or Satan?

Excellent post Major..... and YES....Halloween is a huge problem for me... and has been for many years.

When I was a young child... Halloween as you stated was NEVER questioned... but then I was NOT a Christian. It was simply a time to get dressed up and go knocking on the neighborhood doors. You had the odd child wearing a scary or what would be considered an OCCULT type costume... but generally it was ... or "seemed" to be an innocent holiday. I could be wrong on this... but it seems to me.... in the 60's and 70's... it was a more innocent holiday.

NOW.... I really "FEEL" the evilness of this occasion... and I will NOT participate. I usually go to my friend's house for a sleep-over. We go out for dinner and watch a movie. NO candy or treats for the kids.

It amazes me how we teach kids NOT to take things from strangers but yet.... allow them to go out on this night.

I think you are right Major... that as we mature in our Christian walk... we see things more clearly for what they are.

Don't throw rocks at me... HAHAHA.... But I don't have a problem with SANTA or the EASTER BUNNY in the same way... and maybe that is because kids don't believe in these characters for an entire life time.
The magic of CHRISTMAS in a child's view is something so precious... and I don't think I would have the heart to deny any child the experience of AWE and WONDER that comes at that time of year.

My little humble SHEEP thoughts. HA

Think that would be based upon ones conviction, and also think churches could have in place programs for that night, as we have done trunk or treat for years now, and have had thousands each time, and many have visited the church to see what Christianity is all about , as always hamnd out a bulletin and Gospel tract to each child that attends

Isn't it amazing that parents allow their kids to go around and collect candy from strangers, and our media and medical profession runs ads for parents to being the candy received to the hospital for a free x-ray to check for razor blades. Is that bazzar or what!!!!

Isn't a church that practices Halloween with an event such as a Fall Festival or a Trunk/Treat engaging in devil worship???

Halloween can be a fun time for kids .it only becomes of the devil if you put devilish things in it

With both (my wife and I having a background in the 'dark side' before coming to Christ we'd just assume to stay clear of the day. I know it's nothing and kids will be kids, it's just a personal choice of conscience

Thou doth protest too much methinks.
me needs keep thinking then i aint protesting a thing .. i am stating facts a child dressed up in a costume not anything satanic related.. doing it all for fun .. there is no evil in it.. nor if a church has a fall festable is it being worldly .. kids go on hay rides roast hot dogs play games have fun... heck i even like frosty the snowman .. if that makes me worldly so be it

I went to Winner's yesterday with my niece and I was shocked to see how much Halloween merchandise they were selling... BASCIALLY... everything in the kitchen wares department was some kind of ghost or pumpkin.

We have a second hand store here called Value Village... and they go over the top with costumes and accessories.

What I am noticing is how the retail stores are starting earlier and earlier to put stuff out.
