Romans 8:26 "Likewise the Spirit also helps our infirmities: for we know not what we should pray for as we ought: but the Spirit itself makes intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered." Real prayer happens in the Spirit.
Philippians 4:6 "Be careful for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God." We can (and should) pray about anything and everything...with much thanksgiving as we remember always what our Awesome Lord has done for us! It is also a great anxiety reliever (check out the rest of Philippians 4).
1 Thessalonians 5:17 "Pray without ceasing." Always stay in touch with the Father!
1 John 5:14-15 "This is the confidence which we have [
a]before Him, that, if we ask anything according to His will, He hears us.15 And if we know that He hears us
in whatever we ask, we know that we have the requests which we have asked from Him." Ask in the will of God and you will get (you know His will from His Spirit and His Word). Otherwise "You ask, and receive not, because you ask amiss, that you may consume it on your lusts."
James 4:3.
1 Timothy 2:1-4 "First of all, then, I urge that entreaties
and prayers, petitions
and thanksgivings, be made on behalf of all men,2 for kings and all who are in [
a]authority, so that we may lead a tranquil and quiet life in all godliness and [
b]dignity.3 This is good and acceptable in the sight of God our Savior,4 who desires all men to be saved and to come to the [
c]knowledge of the truth." It pleases God when we pray for the authorities ...that we might live peaceful and quiet lives totally in Him.

And also pray for the salvation of the lost!
1 Timothy 2:8 "I will therefore that men pray every where, lifting up holy hands, without wrath and doubting." Obviously God doesn't want us to harbor doubt ("God can't really do this....in case this doesn't work out I have Plan B) when praying to Him. And He wants us to be a peace with Him and men before we pray....that we might lift up holy hands to Him without wrath....
James 5:16 "Confess your faults one to another, and pray one for another, that you may be healed. The effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man avails much." Praying for others is pretty huge (goes right in line with "love others above yourself). And confessing is part of prayer (1 John 1:9). And prayer - for the righteous child of God - WORKS!
