Jesus: Part 5. Jesus the Lord.

Jesus the Lord.

Lord
– This office is held by one who has the right to administer in some sphere or capacity. It could be national, social, or spiritual.

It is also the executive part of the government, carrying the laws into effect. It is the exercise of power and can be signing and sealing of laws.

Thus, the Lordship of Jesus is not just a name but a title carrying authority and power.

`…He who is the blessed and only Potentate, the King of kings and Lord of lords. ` (1 Tim. 6: 15)

The Lord`s superlative office, Lord of lords, entitles Him to supreme administrative power over all other authorities.

…`Jesus Christ – He is Lord of all.` (Acts 10: 36)

Jesus is Lord in every sphere of rule, every realm of power, in every dominion, every empire, every kingdom, every government, and in every administration.

The Lord made some massive claims during His earthly ministration and declared He had power –

- over all flesh, (John 17: 2)
- over all the powers of the enemy, (Luke 10: 19),
- and over all that are in the graves (John 5: 25).

He is Lord of the Living and the dead (Rom. 14: 8 & 9) and has power to raise the dead. (Rev. 20: 12 & 13) He outlives all other administrations and all other authorities. Jesus is -

Lord of glory. (1 Cor. 2: 8)

Lord of creation. (Heb. 1: 10)

Lord of all racially. (Acts 10: 34 - 36)

Lord of the Harvest. (Matt. 9: 38)

Lord of resurrection power. (John 11: 25)

Lord of heaven and earth. (Acts 17: 24)

The Lord Jesus is always mindful of details in dispensing both justice and mercy.

Whenever we dwell on the capabilities of the Lord Jesus, His foresight, His great insight, and oversight over all, assures us that He is truly Lord of Lords.

Jesus the Lord over the Body of Christ.

The Lord holds the scepter of supremist authority and administration. This is portrayed as the `seven stars in His right hand. ` (Rev. 1: 20) It is a picture of the Pleiades, (7 stars) which draw our solar system around the Milky way over a thousand years. If the Lord has power to do that, how much more is He able to manage the Body of Christ over the centuries and across the world.

The Lord Jesus Christ is the founder and perfector of the Church and is shown as its competent Administrator. He is walking amongst the seven golden lampstands. Each lampstand fitted on to a common base representing the complete Church, the Body of Christ. The number seven in Hebrew means complete. (Rev. 2 & 3)

Thus, looking back through history, we can see that these seven churches are an overview, showing the entire history of its development and conflict against the enemy, while displaying Christ`s competence to meet all challenges, finally culminating in the completing of the mature Body of Christ, His glorious Church.

Thus, the Lord Jesus Christ directs John to write to these seven churches in Asia who are representative of all the local churches, the believers who are the Body of Christ.

Ephesus, Smyrna, Pergamos, Thyatira, Sardis, Philadelphia, and Laodicea.

The Lord addresses each group particularly, giving words of commendation and encouragement or chastisement and warnings. Christ then counsels each group presenting Himself in clarity and truth. The response is to repent and obey His Holy Spirit.

Each church, each group of believers would be encouraged, comforted, or challenged by the Lord`s discernment of them. Then down through the centuries as other believers read, they also could receive what Christ is saying by His Holy Spirit.

Now finally today there are believers who have left their first love, as did Ephesus, servants being martyred, as in Smyrna, others engrossed and overcome with worldly indulgences, and so on.

Then we see that the church of Laodicea, the final group of believers, having to face `every wind of doctrine, ` being `tossed to and fro ` Yet the encouragement is to press on to maturity in Christ and to reach the unity of the faith (what we believe), and the knowledge of the Son of God. (Eph. 4: 13 – 16)

Jesus the Lord over the Tribulation.

When the Body of Christ is complete Jesus takes it to His own throne in glory. There He is enthroned with His Body as the King High priest with His people as Kingpriests. Jesus receives all the glory, honour and power for He alone is worthy.

The Father then gives Jesus the scroll, the legal document of His will to be carried out. Thus, in His office of Lordship, Jesus steps forward and takes the scroll. Only He who is the `Lion and Lamb,` is able to execute the righteous judgments required.

Opening the scroll, the Lord reveals what He will soon bring judgments upon and who will be saved. The four great Federations that combine to be the final Gentile Global Government are seen as men on horses being herded to judgment. The martyrs, 144,000, and great multitude are protected by the Lord, however, all who are at His coming to earth will face His pronouncement of `one taken in judgment or one left to go into the millennium. `

Throughout the tribulation the Body of Christ worships God and proclaims –

`…We give you thanks, O Lord God Almighty, the one who is and who was and who is to come, because you have taken your great power and reigned.` (Rev. 11: 16 & 17)

Finally, the kingdoms of the world become the Lord`s.

`Then the seventh angel sounded: And there were loud voices in heaven, saying, “The kingdoms of this world have become the kingdoms of our Lord and of His Christ, and He shall reign for ever and ever! “` (Rev. 11: 15)

The reaping of the world`s harvest begins; those to life and those to death.

`For as the Father has life in Himself, so He has granted the Son to have life in Himself, and has given Him authority to execute judgment also…` (John 5: 26 & 27)

Jesus Himself declares He is the `Lord of the Harvest, ` (Matt. 9: 38)

He is seen as an angel reaping of the earth`s harvest of souls.

`So He who sat on the cloud thrust in His sickle on the earth, and the earth was reaped.` (Rev. 14: 16)

Those who overcome the `beast` sing the song of Moses –

`…Great and marvelous are your works, Lord God Almighty! Just and true are your ways, O King of the nations, who shall not fear you, O Lord, and glorify your name? For you alone are holy. For all nations shall come and worship before you, for your judgments have been manifest. ` (Rev. 15: 3 – 4)

Jesus the Lord over the Nations in the Millennium.

After Jesus has brought judgment upon the rebellious, He then sets up His kingdom rule through Israel.

`Many nations shall come and say, “Come, and let us go up to the mountain of the LORD, to the house of the God of Jacob; He will teach us of His ways, and we shall walk in His paths.” (Micah 4: 2)

A man named David will rule as king.

`And they shall serve the LORD their God and David their king.` (Jer. 30: 9)

Priests will be judges with him.

`the priests, the Levites,….shall teach my people the difference between the holy and unholy….in controversy they shall stand as judges and judged according to my judgments.` (Ez. 44: 15, 23 & 24)

Other people in Israel will also receive authority to serve the Lord.

`After a long time the lord of those servants came and settled accounts with them. So he who received five talents came and brought five other talents, saying, “Lord, you delivered to me five talents; look, I have gained five more talents besides them.”

His lord said to him, “Well done, good and faithful servant; you were faithful over a few things, I will make you ruler over many things. ` (Matt. 25: 19 – 21)

The Lord`s rule over the nations will be with a rod of iron.

`The LORD said to my Lord,…..rule in the midst of your enemies! ` (Ps. 110: 1 & 2)

`You shall break them (nations) with a rod of iron. ` (Ps. 2: 9)

Then over a period of time the Lord puts down all rule and all authority and power.

`Then comes the end, when He delivers the kingdom to God the Father, when He puts and end to all rule and authority and power. For He must reign till He has put all enemies under His feet.

The last enemy that will be destroyed is death….

Now when all things are made subject to Him, then the Son Himself will also be subject to Him who put all things under Him, that God may be all in all. ` (1Cor. 15: 24 – 28)

Jesus the Lord in Eternity.

Jesus the Son of God is the heir of all the Father`s estates. As Kingpriest He rules supreme with His sacrificial heart. Then as Lord He administers and executes the Father`s will, even in the ages to come.

The Father `seated Him (Jesus) at His right hand in the heavenly places far above all principalities and powers and might and dominion, and every name that is named, not only in this age, but also in that which is to come. And He put all things under His feet.` (Eph. 1: 20 & 22)

From the beginning Jesus in His Lordship was carrying out the Father`s will.

`You, Lord, in the beginning laid the foundations of the earth, and the heavens are the work of your hands; they will perish, but you remain; and they will all grow old like a garment; like a cloak you will fold them up, and they will be changed. But you are the same, and your years will not fail. ` (Heb. 1: 10 – 12)

The Lord not only created the heavens and earth, but He also upholds them.

`God, who at various times and in different ways spoke in time past to the fathers by the prophets, has in these last days spoken to us by His Son, whom He had appointed heir of all things, through whom He made the worlds,

Who being the brightness of His glory and the express image of His person, and upholding all things by the word of His power…` (Heb. 1: 1 – 3)

Finally, the Lord will destroy this old earth with fire.

`the day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night, in which the heavens will pass away with a great noise, and the elements will melt with fervent heat; both the earth and the works that are in it will be burned up. ` (2 Peter 3: 10)

Then the Lord will make a new heavens and new earth.

`And I saw a new heaven and a new earth, for the first heaven and the first earth had passed away... ` (Rev. 21: 1)

`For behold, I create new heavens and a new earth; and the former shall not be remembered or come to mind. ` (Isa. 65: 17)

Conclusion.

As we continue to daily meditate upon our glorious Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ, we are being changed into His likeness.

`For whom He foreknew, He also predestined to be conformed to the image of His Son, that He might be the first-born among many brethren.` (Rom. 8: 29)

The things of this earth, trials, sufferings, difficulties, all become `strangely dim,` as that lovely song says when we look away to Jesus.

`Turn your eyes upon Jesus, Look full in His wonderful face, And the things of earth will grow strangely dim, in the light of His glory and grace.`

We will find our spirit being enlarged as we grow to maturity in Christ Jesus.

What a blessed hope we have – to see Jesus. So let us press on and be fully assured that He is able to keep us.

`Now to Him who is able to keep you from stumbling, and to present you faultless before the presence of His glory with exceeding joy.

To God our Saviour, who alone is wise, be glory and majesty, dominion and power, both now and forever. Amen.` (Jude 24 & 25)
