Hello Bob;
I have been referencing the study notes in the NIV and I don't always agree with some minor areas, but in Joshua 2:4-5 Rahab lied to her own country men, Jericho, to protect Joshua's spies. The study notes for this passage gives me a good argument by explaining that Rahab was justified for lying;
1. God forgave Rahab for lying because of her faith reference Hebrews 11:31
2. Rahab was deceiving the enemy, a normal and acceptable practice in wartime.
3. Rahab was not a Jew, therefore she could not practice the moral standards in God's Law
4. Rahab broke a lesser principle of telling the truth to uphold a higher principle of protecting God's people.
- Joshua 2:4-5 NIV Study notes
In the New Testament, Rahab was an ancestor of David, in the Genealogy of Jesus in Matthew 1 and is in the Hall of Faith in Hebrews 11:31.
I am interested in knowing other's thoughts.
