Methodist Off The Rails

Awhile back l posted anout my granddaughters church voting to split from the traditional Methodist denomination. This link will show why.

I for one applaud those who split.
To remain would then make them guilty of the sin which divides them.

Yes I would say that's a good reason to break away!

I don't know about the methodists churches (never attended one) but hasn't the same thing happened in the Anglican churches? Quakers don't have anything like ordained Bishops or church hierarchies though I am sure people attend who go against or do not believe in Gods word in the Bible.

Baptist churches as far as I know don't have Bishops.

over the past some odd year the united Methodist conference board has strayed away from the Bible . you cant go against God word and expect to be the Church. God is trimming the dead branches back soon they will be like the vineyard in proverbs 24:30-31

Hello Hopeful, forgiven, Lanolin and VictorianLady;

It's time for me to get back into the swing of things and came across this thread by Hopeful and wanted to share. Since we moved up from San Diego to the San Francisco Bay Area in 1988 it was an eye-opener our first year.

I was already hearing how the Christian community was hated. A group of young adult Christians were walking through the Castro District, a heavily gay culture district of SF. They approached a group of gay men and engaged in a conversation but when the men learned they were believers, the men lashed at them by cursing Jesus. The group backed off and slowly crossed the street.

By the early 1990s the Methodist Church accepted an openly gay female minister to marry her partner. Hazel and I visited a historic Methodist Church in Half Moon Bay, CA where the tour guide (member) stated they were proud of their Wesleyan teachings. When I mentioned the gay minister marrying her partner in the church the guide didn't know how to respond. I was careful not to be brash and was glad there was noone else but her, Hazel and me.

After 34 years residing in Daly City (border of SF) I have witnessed gay persons in the SF Bay Area who renounced their gender dysphoria and abstain from their sexual activities. In time they praised God that He doesn't make mistakes in creating them men and women;

"I am more comfortable with my life now. I married an amazing Godly woman who understands my past and I am the father of two beautiful children".

"I let my hair grow and started wearing appropriate women's clothing at church and felt attracted when my future Christian husband had an interest in me and also understood my past."

Unfortunately, through the years the Methodist Church has increased it's acceptance of "gay ministers." This sends the wrong message to gays who attend church and truly want a relationship with Jesus. Many gays attend church weekly to praise God but return to their personal sexual lifestyle during the week.

The world has so many undesirable circumstances. Jesus was there. Let's continue to pray incessantly for all who have their own share of crying and sufferings, and for some who don't know or have a clue what they're doing.

Regarding Bishops in the church. The Methodists, Presbytery and Catholicism ordain Bishops (episkopos) which are the same office as a Pastor, Elder, or Reverend. Their doctrine, autonomy and terms are simply different ways of identifying the same people. Another point, I graduated and was ordained from a Baptist seminary, but this does not qualify me to be ordained as a Bishop in the Catholic Church.

Forgiven is correct. The Baptist, or Southern Baptist does not identify the Bishop in the Church. In the church I pastored we commissioned Deacons (diakonos or messenger) and Elders (presbuteros.)

Hopeful, I have no doubt your daughter prayed and gained wisdom and discernment from God before He led her to a new church.

God bless you, brother, and your family.

i was raised in the Methodist see not all Methodist are like this .the Wesleyan they hold to ladies wears skirts men dress like men . i was told there was a time you couldn't tell a Methodist from the Baptist. i dont know when but the went from Methodist to united Methodist. one of my issues with umc is many of their pastor are not called of God . i fear the little umc church i came from is deceived by the conference

Hello forgiven;

You're referring to when we were kids raised in church during the 60s, right? Most churches prior to the late 70's had more family attendance, conservative men's attire - shirt, tie, women's attire - dresses with hand gloves and more hymnal singing.

Also, does anyone remember what your parents would do if you were misbehaving during service? All my Dad had to do was give me a look during service if I was fidgeting. 🤡

L😎L!

You apparently seemed to have been an angel bob.😇

Although I didn't very often go to church unless I was at school, I wasn't a misbehaving child either. One finger raised by my dad had me stop in my tracks too😂

I imagine the 50s and 60's seemed to have been the better era as I grew up in the seventies, but there was something lovely about the 50s and 60s especially in USA that seemed really like happy cleaner days.

I was the only one in the family who went to church even as a child. 50's/60's
Everyone dressed smart and girls and women wore hats. There us a problem with that sometimes it can become a fashion competition. That can be a big distraction ftom worship. There also ended up cliques, the wealthy together the poor together.

hey i first got introduced to jesus in the 4th grade. i yelled at a teacher that was telling me fix my pants.. she told me again like a dummy i yelled at her i am !!! she dragged me in the class room beta my backside with a paddle.. i cried out to Jesus for deliverance from this mad teacher swinging a paddle :LOL:

My father was a lapsed Catholic, but like Cosia, I began, on my own at around the age of 8, to visit numerous and differing denominational neighborhood churches.

I was eventually confirmed into the Episcopal church at the age of 16. I remember the church had “priests” and it was a bishop that presided at my conformation. People back then did not wear jeans to church but rather dresses for the women and suits for men or at least slacks and sport coats. Anything else was considered disrespectful for any formal services.

The Episcopal church has liberalized itself into a church that no longer represents my beliefs and faith.

lol! forgiven! I remember getting the paddle or ruler when I was also in the...4th grade!

I was 10 years old and remember pulling the chair from the girl sitting next to me. She hit the bottom and immediately went to the teacher crying and told her what I did. The teacher wasted no time giving me the swat!

The silly thing was the girl and I had a crush on each other. lol!

Hello blueskies;

That's right. I forgot about the Episcopal Church. My Dad had a friend from high school who was a Catholic Priest in San Diego. He and a Nun fell in love so they both stepped down from the Church, joined the Episcopal Church priesthood and got married.

Not well received by the diocese who lost a good priest, but the couple went on to live a long happy marriage.

And...congratulations on being raised to Senior Moderator. 😎👍
