Plumb Line

'Let no debt remain outstanding, except the continuing debt to love one another, for whoever loves others has fulfilled the law. The commandments, “You shall not commit adultery,” “You shall not murder,” “You shall not steal,” “You shall not covet,” and whatever other command there may be, are summed up in this one command: “Love your neighbor as yourself.” Love does no harm to a neighbor. Therefore love is the fulfillment of the law. And do this, understanding the present time: The hour has already come for you to wake up from your slumber, because our salvation is nearer now than when we first believed. The night is nearly over; the day is almost here. So let us put aside the deeds of darkness and put on the armor of light. Let us behave decently, as in the daytime, not in carousing and drunkenness, not in sexual immorality and debauchery, not in dissension and jealousy. Rather, clothe yourselves with the Lord Jesus Christ, and do not think about how to gratify the desires of the flesh.'

Amen!! This basically sums up the law (10 commandments). When we are loving others, we are thinking of them and honoring them above ourselves. We choose to respect others and not do anything to cause harm or pain. In doing so, we will keep the commandments. This is the mark of true character. The law is the plumb line that measures us against God’s standards. It is like a mirror to show us where we need to change. We should be thankful for the law because it brings structure and respect to our relationships with one another and God. It shows us how to achieve harmony with others and a blessed life.

I copied and pasted this for those who might not know what a plumb line is and how it is used in the bible. I hope this is accurate. HA.

A plumb line is a piece of string with a weight attached to the end that is used to check that something such as a wall is vertical or that it slopes at the correct angle.

The plumb line is the image of God's righteous and holy standard that Israel failed to embody in their lives. The plumb line physically represented Israel's waywardness. Due to Israel's failure to live “true to plumb” God brings about the necessary consequences of Israel's sinful behavior.

Good morning, In Awe of Him;

Thank you for sharing about the plumb line. My former Pastor used this method on a cabana we built along with a children's playground when we were overseas on a missionary. It worked!

My wife also used the plumb line on me to make sure I was vertical and at the correct angle.
😎 lol!

God bless you, sister.
