Prayer

Amen! Thank you, Bob, and good morning.

This is an excellent spiritual point and a good self-assessment
method. I used to pray long prayers and get commended for
the way that I could pray but I didn't edify myself or God by
saying those long prayers. Sometimes "help" can be all the prayer
we need.

You won't get complemented for short and simple prayers by
mankind but the whole point in life is a personal relationship with
our Savior in a sincere in respectful manner. Lots more than can
be said on this topic but I will just end with:

"And when you pray, you are not to be like the hypocrites; for they
love to stand and pray in the synagogues and on the street corners
so that they will be seen by people. Truly I say to you, they have
their reward
in full." (Matthew 6:5; NAS)

"And when you are praying, do not use thoughtless repetition as the
Gentiles do, for they think that they will be heard because of their
many words
." (Matthew 6:6; NAS)

Christ sought a private place to talk with God, telling us about this aspect of prayer. Our conversations ought to be in private so that we can be with God uninterrupted and focused. Also it is the attitude of seeking God rather than seeking to puff oneself by being seen of men.

I agree. Short and to the point in our prayers is honored by God, just the same as elongated ones.

Praying out loud in a congregational setting is fine. But it becomes more of a way to "showcase" our
linguistic ability instead of speaking to our Maker privately.

As a congregation or group prayer, are ways for a larger body to pray. IMHO these bodies should also pray privately. A group prayer for all to see is probably not the best choice.

God knows our minds and hearts, it's not always possible to pray privately, sometimes we also have much to say to the Lord. The purpose and intent of the heart in prayer is the most important thing here.

I agree. "Purpose and intent of the heart in prayer" should be primary.
