Yup! The parties used to be reversed. I'm not sure when or why they traded places, but they did somehow.
What's really telling are the historic drawings from artists back then depicting Democrat vagabonds sitting outside polling places, and pointing guns at back voters, threatening them if they don't vote Democrat. That was allowed back then.
