Question for members from Inthelightoffaith

Hello inthelightoffaith;

I feel this is a good start in the General Discussions forum. Let's see where it goes and if members are prompted by the Spirit they will join in.

Understanding from others what our roles are as God's children aligned with the Scriptures is a great way to learn from each other with blessings.

I for one am open to this discussion and will join in soon.

God bless you, sister and thank you for authoring this thread.

from my personal standpoint....I think we are on a journey, and rather than sleepwalking through life, I basically think we are here

to know ourselves. learn and grow, be guided and connect deeply with God Our Creator and others in Love and Truth.

and journeys always have to start somewhere, and to go on an adventure of a lifetime, we must be curios about who we are and why we are here and where we are headed and why.

I leave it there, see what scriptures we can all blast out

awesome topic, btw, nice to meet u Inthelightoffaith 😇

I love this topic

Thank you Bob in faith
And as Via Dolarossa said life is a journey. It really is...
And as Forgien61 says, a testimony is a wonderful thing & we're called to shine...

I ask because last year I was really challenged by some scriptures which puzzled my thoughts. I wanted to know what God wanted me to do during my time in the world. I later discovered that so many were so unsure as to what to do in the "world" & "earth".

1 of those scriptures is Matthew 5:13-15

13. Ye are the salt of the earth: but if the salt have lost his savour, wherewith shall it be salted? it is thenceforth good for nothing, but to be cast out, and to be trodden under foot of men.
14. Ye are the light of the world. A city that is set on an hill cannot be hid.

What's the difference between the earth and the world I asked the Lord. How do we salt the earth & light the world & what does a city on a hill mean???

I have a question to ask that I believe would be a good topic to discuss to open up the scriptures...

What do you think our role as Gods children is in/to the world?
Basically to let others know the Good News of Jesus Christ…

Acts 8:4 NKJV
[4] Therefore those who were scattered went everywhere preaching the word.

We are all different, that is the way we have been made. I believe The Holy Spirit guides us to use whatever gifts God has given us to serve Him. There must be many answers to your great question Inthelightoffaith what a wonderful topic.

Could it be that there things we are good at and enjoy doing are gifts God
wants us to use to serve Him?
No matter what we do we should do it with love in our hearts. Without love we cannot reach anyone.

In Matthrw 22:37-4o we are given the 2 great commandments by Jesus. Love God with all your heart your soul and your might. Love your neighbour as thyself.
If we can't do that we can't serve God.

Excellant question. Of course most of us will give personal opinions and there is nothing wrong with that.

1. Speak Up for Those Who Can't Speak Up for Themselves

Proverbs 31:8-9........
"Speak up for those who cannot speak for themselves; ensure justice for those being crushed. Yes, speak up for the poor and helpless, and see that they get justice."

Psalms 72:12.......
"He will rescue the poor when they cry to him; he will help the oppressed, who have no one to defend them."

2. Stand Up for Justice
Deut. 16:20..........
"Let true justice prevail, so you may live and occupy the land that the Lord your God is giving you."

Lev. 19:15,,,,,,,,,,,,
"Do not twist justice in legal matters by favouring the poor or being partial to the rich and powerful. Always judge people fairly."

3. Cry Out for the Oppressed
Isaiah 1:17...........
"Learn to do good; Seek justice, Rebuke the oppressor; Defend the fatherless, Plead for the widow."

Zech. 7:10.........
"Do not oppress widows, orphans, foreigners, and the poor. And do not scheme against each other."

What do you think our role as Gods children is in/to the world?

Hello inthelightoffaith;

I'm enjoying reading these great posts regarding our role as God's children.

I'd like to share from my heart and Proverbs 3:1-2, 1
My son, do not forget my teaching, but let your heart keep my commandments, 2 for length of days and years of life and peace they will add to you.

Solomon, considered the wisest man who ever lived, taught this profound proverb regarding teaching and the heart commandment. The Bible commands us to study the Word, but as we increase in our theology (study of God) doesn't mean we limit our role to only discussing God between other disciples, but to reach out and increase the heart command of loving God and others.

The wisdom of God's children includes loving, shunning evil, discern right from wrong, listening whether verbal or reading, faith and trust in the Lord and God first.

Solomon's teaching doesn't say our role will be a "cake walk" into the world, but we will obtain spiritual life, peace and calm as we endure the world.

God bless everyone here and your families.

In many cases, the Earth is a place where we collectively live, while the World is the social (dis)order man has built, often in contrast or opposition to what the Lord God wants for us.

We salt the earth by working in our part of it, whether just outside our doors, or where He sends us. Our testimony of Him brings His Light to the social disorder around us.

The city on the hill is the community of saved believers in the coming world (i.e. our place in Heaven).

Hello Siloam;

Amen! We always enjoy reading and sharing your posts!

God bless you and your family.

I think it was Ronald Reagan who coined the term ‘City on a Hill’.
The closest I find in Scripture...

Matthew 5:15 (KJV) Neither do men light a candle, and put it under a bushel, but on a candlestick; and it giveth light unto all that are in the house.

Since we are the salt (preserving agent) of the earth, we salt the earth by going out into it and being what Jesus said we already are...salt.
And since Jesus is the light of the world , we light the world by sharing His truth.

Also, to add the the above members posts on salt…

When I think of salt and what it does( preserves food well) it also adds a new flavour to a dish. When we salt the earth maybe we are all adding a distinctive flavour to it. I can sometimes catch a glimpse of some people going about shining their light and I become inspired and enjoy reading their journey and what they felt was important to them and why.

Salt and sunlight are also disinfectants. In a spiritual sense Christians are spiritual disinfectants because we are the 'salt of the earth' and the 'spreaders of Sonlight'. (Just a thought.)
