Sabbath 10/15/16 Seventh Day Baptist Daytona Pastor Wray sermon “The Gospel as God Gave It!” Gal. 1:1-24

What really inspires you and gets you excited? If you saw someone who is about to be injured, wouldn’t you warn them? What if they wouldn’t listen but listened to lies instead. Wouldn’t you fight to get their attention? Doesn’t this happen in our families and communities? In the Shakespeare play Othello, Othello believed a lie and kills his wife. He then ends up killing himself after finding out about the lie. He didn’t listen to his wife or friends but listened to a lying enemy.

There is an enemy to the Gospel of Jesus Christ. This enemy, the devil, presents falsehoods about the life and teachings of Jesus Christ. The enemy pushes sciences that explain our existence. There is the big bang theory explosion that is used to explain our existence. The enemy of God has an arsenal of lying weapons that he uses to destroy our faith. These weapon take away the truth of Jesus Christ and the gift of salvation.

In our text, many churches were affected by a false gospel and were deserting Jesus Christ. This false teaching had deadly consequences for those hearing it. When we read the scriptures, we need to think on how seriously we believe the gospel and how really grateful we are. Jesus Christ is the source of Paul’s authority in ministry and He is our source as well. Jesus died for our sins and was raised again. We have life thru Jesus Christ. Paul was concerned about the enemy trying to change the gospel message. The gospel must never be tampered with or changed. Trying to change the gospel will have the church dying and being cursed by God. The Gospel came from God and it is for us. The Gospel is eternal and powerful. The Gospel is for us. Faith in Jesus Christ will deliver us from death and this present evil age. Jesus is our sin offering and it is complete. We are ONLY saved by the death of Jesus Christ for our sins.

Our obedient faith does not save us. Only the death of Jesus saves us. We don’t need to be circumcised or follow the Law of Moses. These things are not what they heard from Paul. He taught them the Gospel of Jesus Christ and not the lies that the churches were being told. The enemy spread these lies and tried to get the churches to not believe when Paul said the Gospel of Jesus is complete. Paul made it clear that the Gospel of Jesus was not to be added to or taken away from. It is to stay as the Gospel as God gave it. God’s curse will be on any that try to change the gospel. Paul tells us he was changed by Jesus himself and had a personal experience with Jesus. Paul was called by Jesus to preach to the gentiles. The Gospel of Jesus Christ will stand forever and never be destroyed.

We need to take heed and hold onto the pure Gospel of Jesus Christ. We don’t need to add to it or spruce it up or candy coat it. We need to hear it and receive it in Faith. Jesus died for our sins according to the scriptures. Jesus was buried and then raised from the dead on the 3rd day, according to the scriptures. The Lamb of God is able to take away the sins of the world. We have the Grace of God in us. God’s Power to Save Is Pure and Perfect! It is the Gospel of Jesus Christ! Surrender your life to Him.

AMEN
