Sabbath 11/26/16 Seventh Day Baptist Daytona Pastor Wray sermon “When Jesus Said Thank You” Matthew 15:35-37

Jesus knew He couldn’t preach effectively when the people were hungry. So Jesus blessed the seven loaves and fishes and then thousands of people were fed. Jesus did a miracle after He gave thanks to God. The words Thank You are two of the most gracious words. As children of God, we are to be constantly thanking God for His blessings and praising His holy name. We all have a long list of blessings that God has given us. Every good and perfect gift is from Above. It comes down from the Heavenly Father. Our greatest gift is eternal life thru Jesus Christ, the Son of God.

Jesus was a very thankful person. He said thank you all the time to God the Father. Jesus thanked God for food, answered prayers and the Calvary cross. Before feeding the 4,000 people, Jesus told them to sit on the ground. Then He gave thanks to God. Then the people all ate and were satisfied.

Jesus knew that the grain came from the ground that was watered by the rain from God. Jesus knew that the fish came from the rivers that God had made. Jesus blessed the food, gave thanks for the food and then the disciples gave the food to the crowd. The miracle happened and God the Father provided all this food.

Jesus gave thanks before He ate the food. Not everybody gives thanks for their food. Some people think its old fashioned and not customary for well-educated folk to give thanks. Men should give thanks for their food and not be like pigs and hogs who don’t give thanks. When Jesus was at Lazarus’ tomb, He lifted up His eyes to God and did not look at the unbelieving folk around Him. Jesus said thank you to God for hearing His prayer about Lazarus being raised from the dead. Jesus said thank you to God to show that He believed God heard Him and would do as He had requested.

God said “call on Him and He will answer our prayers”. We should count our many blessing and thank God for each one of them. In Luke, Jesus said thank you before breaking the communion bread and thank you before drinking the wine. The bread represents Jesus’ body and the wine represents Jesus’ blood. What is bread? It is grain that has been ground up and baked. Jesus’ body was treated like this bread. What is wine? It is grapes that are crushed underfoot to be made into wine. Jesus was crushed like the grapes.

Communion puts us in remembrance of the cross. Communion looks forward with hope for the coming of the Lord. Communion brings a sense of community between each person that takes it. Jesus said do this communion in remembrance of me. He thanked God for His saving death. The Lamb of God thanked God that He could be the sacrifice for the sins of the world. When was the last time you thanked Jesus for dying for you?

AMEN
