Sabbath 11/4/17 Seventh Day Baptist Edgewater Pastor Keith sermon “A Man After God’s Own Heart” I Samuel 16:1-13

Mankind looks at the outward appearances but the Lord looks at the heart of people. Vs. 7. Throughout the scriptures, God chose people to serve Him that we wouldn’t think He would choose-Moses, David and Paul for example. In the book of first Corinthians it says God has chosen the foolish things to help the wise. God chooses people that we might overlook.

In our text, God was choosing a new king to replace King Saul. This was because Saul was disobedient to God’s will. Saul made some of his decisions based on what other people thought instead of fearing God. Saul was not pleasing to God. Young David was so insignificant to his own father that he did not at first bring David into see Samuel. David was not the first choice of anyone…not of his father, not of Samuel and later not of Goliath the giant. God looks at what is in your heart and David had what God wanted. A heart that is totally committed to God is what God wanted for the new king. It is also what God wants from us today. The Lord wants his people to be totally committed to His call.

To be a man or woman after God’s Own Heart:

1) Your lives must be built around God.

You want to be with God and want to worship God. You want to tell others what God has done for you.

2) Your lives must be built around God’s Word—the Bible.

You should meditated on God’s Word and let the Bible be the driving passion in your life. To understand God’s will for our life, we must integrate His Word into our life.

3) You must build your lives around God’s people.

Love your neighbor as yourself. Love God and show love to others too. We must try to resolve any problems we have with people. We are to build people up and not tear them down.

We must surrender our lives to God and let us be a vessel that He can fill. We should be grateful that God loves us and sent Jesus to die for us. We should love others and help our community in the love of God.

AMEN
