Sabbath 12/6/14 Alfred Station SDB Pastor Ken sermon Who is Jesus? John 1:1-3
In the beginning was the Word and the Word was with God, in God and was God. Jesus is the Word. The Word of God is a mystery sometimes. We cannot “get it” sometimes. It is a mystery but it is True. The 14th verse says the Word became flesh and was among us – Jesus. We can go back and read verse 1 as “In the beginning was Jesus and Jesus was with God and Jesus was in God”.
John says Jesus was real. In verse 3, Jesus has a relationship with creation. God touches earth and does it thru the Son Jesus. Verse 3- All things were made by God but He is not inside them. He made trees but we do not worship trees. Jesus is different in that we worship Jesus and we worship God. The Son of God is different from nature. All things come into being by Him. That means there is nothing that didn’t come through Jesus Christ or by Jesus Christ. Jesus Christ is the agency of all things coming into being. Jesus is the agency of creation and things were made thru Him. This makes Him, as part of His nature, the Creator. Sooooo…. apart from Him, nothing comes into being. With Jesus, nothing becomes something! With Jesus you can have and do all things!
The baby that was born in the manger is the Word. That baby is God in the flesh, the Creator, the agency of creation. That’s a mystery! The baby had to be fed and get his pampers changed. That’s a mystery! We are not completely finished. The mystery continues because Jesus is part of the Trinity of God. We must grab a hold of the mystery of our Faith. Jesus the Christ, Jesus the Son of God, Jesus the Word of God. We must ask God to help us understand the mystery and to have Faith in Him.
