Sabbath 2/16/19 Seventh Day Baptist Edgewater Pastor Keith sermon “Bless the Lord Oh My Soul” Psalm 103

What does it meant to bless/praise/worship the Lord? Why are you here, out of habit? Have you been pressured by a family member? Are you here for the fellowship with friends? Are you here because you are hurting? Did you come to be entertained? We should all be here to worship the Lord. Worship should ascribe to be the highest form of worship. God is #1 in our life! We bow down and recognize His majesty. We are loyal to Him and have gratitude toward Him. God is number one. We humble ourselves and express our love and gratitude toward Him.

Worship contains:
  • A Sense of Awe: Isaiah 6:1-5 The Lord was seated on His throne and angels were saying “Holy, Holy, Holy, Lord God Almighty”. We feel a sense of awe toward the One who created the earth and the universe. God is majestic and He is an awesome God!

  • Joy: This is praising God and being loved by God. He wants to save us from all our sins. As we understand this, it brings joy to our heart. Awe and joy go together and are not opposites. It takes them both to have a meaningful worship. We should raise and clap our hands in joy and praise to God.
Reasons for Worship:
  • It is to glorify God: We should worship God in truth and glorify Him. We are to build ourselves up and be encouraged by the worship services. We should always come to church even on the days we don’t feel like it. On those days, God will meet us here personally to comfort us.

  • Testimony: We give testimony to the unsaved folk by going to church. When people see us worshipping God, it is the strongest testimony they will ever see or hear.

  • Preparation: Worshipping takes preparation. Pray before you go to church to get your heart ready for worship.
  • Studying God’s Word and Communion: These are also parts of worship to God. The more we study the Word, the closer we get to the Lord. God will and wants to minister to us.

  • Participate in Worship: Sing unto the Lord joyfully. When we sing we encourage each other. Make a joyful noise unto the Lord. Sing music that praises God. We must praise God and come with a spirit of truth in our hearts, prepared to worship God.
AMEN
