Sabbath 5/19/18 Seventh Day Baptist Edgewater Pastor Keith sermon “The Power of Prayer”

Sabbath 5/19/18 Seventh Day Baptist Edgewater Pastor Keith sermon “The Power of Prayer” Ephesians 3:14-21

In our text Paul made a beautiful prayer. Some people have forgotten the power of prayer. They think they don’t need to ask God for help. We look to things of the world to help us when we have problems. This is wrong because we all need God. There is power in prayer. We should pray always and not just at church. God has not left us nor forsaken or forgotten us. We need God and He will always be there for us.

We need to talk to God and not just tell him what His answer to our prayer should be. We need to know that prayer works. God listens and answers prayer in His time, not ours. We should not create our own gods by running to other things for help and not turning to God. At one time God was upset with the Israelites and wanted to destroy them. This was at the time when they made the golden calf and were worshipping the idol. It was Moses’s prayer to God for Him to not destroy them that saved the people. God listened to his prayer and didn’t destroy them.

King Hezekiah was sick and dying. He prayed to God for healing and God listened to his prayer. God healed King Hezekiah and gave him another fifteen years to live. Joshua was in a battle and he prayed for the sun to stand still for more light for them to fight. God listened to Joshua’s prayer and kept the sun up. God does listen to prayer. God listened to them in the Old & New Testament times and God listens to our prayers today.

We serve a prayer hearing and a prayer answering God! God listens and answers the prayers of the missionaries in foreign countries today. We hear many stories of God doing miracles out in the missionary field as answers to prayers. God listens carefully to our prayers but does not let us dictate to Him what He should do. When He doesn’t answer our prayers, it’s because His thoughts and His ways are higher than our thoughts and ways. God loves us greatly and we need to trust Him. God knows what’s best for us! We must have Faith in God that He knows and will do what is right for us. Don’t get frustrated when He doesn’t answer our prayers the way we want. Jesus said to ask anything in His Name and God will do it. Trust in the power of God. Trust that God will move in a way that is best for us because we ARE his children.

AMEN
