Sabbath 6/25/16 Seventh Day Baptist of Daytona Pastor Wray sermon “The Foundations of Freedom” Psalm 11:3

“If the foundations be destroyed, what can the righteous do?”

This is the time of the year, 4th of July, when we think of freedom. When your pastor was a child, I always looked forward to the church picnic at the beach for the 4th of July. The foundation of freedom that the 4th of July brings, is the anniversary of the founding of this country. In 1883, the island of Jamaica was to be set free from slavery. Everyone was waiting in anticipation for this day, for them to be set free at last. They all spoke the words “free at last” for Jamaica. The USA is a nation founded on freedom in our Constitution and in Abraham Lincoln’s Gettysburg address. Freedom was for everyone including the slaves. True freedom is for everyone and they are to be blessed with victory and peace in God.

John 8:32 The Truth shall make you free. The Bible tells us the principles of honesty, morality and many other principles that nations should be built on. God wants to bless us.

** Dignity of Human Life: Exodus 20:30, Matthew 22:39

Do not kill but love your neighbor as yourself. Every human being has worth and the right to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness.

** Traditional Family: Genesis 2:24

A man leaves his father and mother and goes to be with his wife. Then they shall be one flesh. A one man and one woman couple in godly union.

** National Work Ethic: II Thessalonian 3:10

We are to obey the scriptures and work for our livelihood. We are not to depend on others to take care of us. We must provide for ourselves and our families.

** Right to Godly Education: Ephesian 6:14

You are to educate your children in godly principles. Education starts at home first then at school. If your children learn a bad habit at school, then you must un-teach them this bad habit when they come home.

** Principle of Common Decency: Matt. 22:39

God, our Creator, wants us to love our neighbor as ourselves. Do the decent thing to others and help them when needed.

** Personal Responsibility to God: Heb. 9:27

We will have to give account of ourselves to God. God holds us accountable for what we do and also our relationships to others. We are personally accountable to God.

The message of the Gospel is that Jesus came into the world to set men free. We are free in Christ. We are to stand fast in the liberty that Christ gave us. We are free from the law of sin and death. No longer does sin control our lives. No longer are we controlled by the world. We are free to live our lives when we are the sons and daughters of God. Death no longer has control of us. Through Christ we have conquered hell, death and the grave.

Are you free today? Have you been set free by Jesus Christ? You can be free today by letting Jesus become your Lord and Savior. Jesus will set you free!

John 8:36 He that the Son sets free is free indeed!

AMEN
