Sabbath 7/30/16 Seventh Day Baptist of Daytona Pastor Wray sermon “Humpty Dumpty” I Cor. 13:1-13

All of us, as we grew up, knew about Humpty Dumpty. Humpty Dumpty sat on a wall, Humpty Dumpty had a great fall, all the king’s horses and all the king’s men couldn’t put Humpty Dumpty back together again. Some say Humpty Dumpty sat on a wall, fell off and shouted God can put me together again. There are some nursery rhymes that are a little frightening. Three blind mice, see how they run and the farmer’s wife cut off their tails with a knife. Actually, the farmer’s wife was bloody Queen Mary of England. The three blind mice were three men that she had burned at the stake for their beliefs. This is not a story of sweet dreams.

Humpty Dumpty fell off the wall and couldn’t be put back together again. Humpty Dumpty looked like an egg with a face on it with little arms and legs. He fell off the wall and no one could help him. This nursery rhyme is based on an English brandy and ale drink called Humpty Dumpty. It was probably hard to sit on a wall after a few Humpty Dumpty drinks.

Christian folk say Humpty Dumpty sat on a wall, had a great fall, shouted Amen and God can put me back together again! We should live life positive, glass being half full and not half empty. We should have a life that can shout Amen…God can put us back together. We are new creations in Christ Jesus and set apart. Our Hope is not of this world but our Hope is in Christ Jesus. We should live a life of good works and it will make us have a full life. We should be getting somewhere and have a purpose for all our busyness. We should know why we are doing what we are doing. We should be living and not just existing. Living is being alive and full of life and not just existing and being there. Don’t just follow routine but have happiness in our lives. Don’t be empty inside but be filled with life. We can learn to live lives full of vigor and livelihood. God gives us three ways:

  1. We Should Seize the Day:

Each and every day we should seize the day. Get all we can get out of each day. To seize the day, do like Apostle Paul said-know your purpose and do it. Don’t be like an ink pen that ran out of ink. Be like a pen full of ink and know your reason for being. Paul’s reason was to know Jesus Christ and to become like Jesus and the resurrection from the dead. Paul’s reason for living was to be like Jesus. We should all want the same.

  2. Forget the Past:

Forget what’s behind and press forward toward the goal, to win the prize in Christ Jesus. We must strive forward and press toward the goal. We all are so busy, we walk fast, talk fast, eat fast and then got to run. We need to forget the past, press toward the future that we have to live. We need to finish life well. In Isaiah, God says He will forget our sins. If God can forget them so should we too. Don’t let our sins and failures become a yoke around our neck.

  3. Live in God’s Love:

Live in God’s love and love to live. Love is hope for all things and includes all things. Love never ends. God’s love should be flowing from our life. We should accept God’s love and let it rule our lives. Love in God has us living and not just exiting. God is like love, God IS Love! There’s Faith, Hope and Love but the greatest of these is Love. Love is an action after faith and hope are in line. We must learn to stop existing and start living. Stop telling God how big our problem is but start telling our problem how BIG our God is! God CAN put Humpty Dumpty back together again. Seize the day and let God manifest His goodness thru our lives as we help other people. Let God mold us and work through us so others can see God in us.

    AMEN
