Sabbath 7/6/19 Alfred Station Seventh Day Baptist Pastor Ken sermon “Unlikely Hero” Judges 3:15-28

The most dangerous time in the life of a Christian, nation or business is when everything is going right. In our text, Israel was prosperous and defeating their enemies. Then they stopped obeying God completely by eliminating all the people in the countries that God was giving them. Instead they started imitating their neighbors by worshipping idols and false gods. Soooo….God began to punish them. He brought in Eglon King of Moab to dominate Israel for eighteen years. Then the people of Israel cried unto the Lord and He heard them and answered them by sending Ehud. Ehud was an unlikely hero but he had four blessings going for him.
  • Ehud came from a good family of the tribe of Benjamin. God chose him to be the deliverer of Israel and so he had to come from a good family that still worshipped God and not idols.

  • Ehud was a good craftsman and worked well with his hands. It was a gift from God. Ehud made himself a sword that was sharp on both ends, almost as long as his arm, about a foot and a half.

  • Ehud had a brain. He was a planner and figured out what to do. God gave him a brain to use and he used it well.

  • Ehud was left handed and this was a gift. His sword was hooked to his right side and no one would check on that side to see it. So he could use his left hand to slip out the sword to use it.
In our text, it says that God gave Ehud all these blessings. Ehud said he was going to use them and put them into action. He knew the Lord God was with him to help him. Ehud told King Eglon that he had a secret message to tell him. Then they went up into the cool room on the roof. Then Ehud killed king Eglon with the sword and then he locked the door of the cool room. Ehud walks out and tells the guard that the king is using the bathroom. Ehud escapes to the mountains and after a long time, the guard unlock the cool room door and finds the king dead with a sword in his belly.

When Ehud got to the mountains, he blew the trumpet and all Israel went to war unified. They were ready for battle against their enemies and were unified once the trumpet blew. They became liberated from their Moab enemies. When we go to battle for the Lord, we are freeing people around us and giving them liberty-freedom from sin thru Jesus Christ!! God will free them from the devil and Jesus will deliver them from their sins. We must be people of action and must be deliverers for the people around us like Ehud was for Israel. We must go to war using the gifts God has given us. We have Jesus, we have God and we are at war against the devil, our enemy. We must let God use us in this battle. God has won the victory already in Jesus name!!

AMEN

Hello Miz KJV Only;

Thank you for our Bible Study, "Unlikely Hero."

God owns everything so when He blesses and prospers us we need to thank Him daily and confess that everything belongs to Him. This humbles us with humility, which is the responsibility to be good stewards of what the Lord has entrusted to us.

God bless you and your family.
