The word of God set the appointed times and told us how to use it. Islam only uses the moon, the West only uses the Sun, and Israel uses both as directed in Genesis:
Genesis 1:14
And God said, Let there be lights in the firmament of the heavens to divide the day from the night; and let them be for signs, and for appointed times, and for days, and years.
At sundown, the New Year begins. This year is also a shmita - a Sabbath year - so in 14 more days (15 Tishri - Jesus' birthday) the Silver Trumpets will be blown ushering the Sabbath year.
On the Jewish calendar, they think it is 5775, but it's actually the year 5990 from Creation according to the word of God.
