Sometimes You Just Have to Let 'Em Celebrate Themselves

Some people are looking for a fight, an argument, some way to put the opposition
in their place. Judges 8 gives us an example of just such a group of people. Gideon
defeats the 120,000 Midianites and after the victory these hot-headed Ephraimites
wanted to share in the victory by sounding like, 'gee, we missed the fight' after the
fight was won. Anyway, Gideon lets them celebrate themselves by saying, basically,
what have I done in comparison to all that you have done?

If praising the person that needs praising without worshipping them can keep you
alive you just might have to do it. You sure can't break their pride but you can elevate
them high enough that God can get a better look at them. ;)
