This is perhaps a delicate topic in light of current affairs but I thought it may be worth discussing.
In Deuteronomy 20, God commands this to Israel as relates to their promised land:
later, in Joshua 13 we see this almost throw-away verse.
I bring this up since I believe it applies to current affairs, namely Israel's war in Gaza. It seems to me that Israel has a mandate to finish whatever work God has set before them, as described in Deuteronomy. I don't know to what extent Scripture is influencing Israel's military decisions but I have to believe they are aware of these passages as they apply to military strategy.
Thoughts?
In Deuteronomy 20, God commands this to Israel as relates to their promised land:
"16 But in the cities of these peoples that the Lord your God is giving you for an inheritance, you shall save alive nothing that breathes, 17 but you shall devote them to complete destruction, the Hittites and the Amorites, the Canaanites and the Perizzites, the Hivites and the Jebusites, as the Lord your God has commanded, 18 that they may not teach you to do according to all their abominable practices that they have done for their gods, and so you sin against the Lord your God." (Deuteronomy 20:16-80 ESV)
later, in Joshua 13 we see this almost throw-away verse.
"13 Yet the people of Israel did not drive out the Geshurites or the Maacathites, but Geshur and Maacath dwell in the midst of Israel to this day." (Joshua 13:13 ESV)
