The Quiet Place

The Quiet Place

On holiday in Northern Italy I began climbing up an Alpine mountain track.
It was a beautiful clear sunny day and as I climbed the air became thinner and the sound of the village traffic below grew more and more distant.
Even the tinkling of the cowbells on the lower slopes faded till all I could sense was complete stillness and quiet.
At which point I sat on an outcrop of rock and tears rolled down my cheeks as my soul sang

“Turn your eyes upon Jesus,

Look full in his wonderful face,

And the things of earth will grow strangely dim,

In the light of his Glory and Grace.
