The Trap

The Trap
======

A mouse looked through the crack in the wall to see the farmer
and his wife open a package.

What food might this contain?
He was devastated to discover it was a mousetrap.

Retreating to the farmyard, the mouse proclaimed the warning,
"There is a mousetrap in the house! There is a mousetrap in the
house!"

The chicken clucked and scratched, raised her head and said,
"Mr. Mouse, I can tell this is a grave concern to you, but it is
of no consequence to me. I cannot be bothered by it."

The mouse turned to the pig and told him, "There is a mousetrap
in the house."

The pig sympathized but said, "I am so very sorry, Mr. Mouse,
but there is nothing I can do about it but pray. Be assured you
are in my prayers."

The mouse turned to the cow. She said, "Wow, Mr. Mouse. I'm
sorry for you but it's no skin off my nose."

So, the mouse returned to the house, head down and dejected to
face the farmer's mousetrap alone.

That very night a sound was heard throughout the house; like the
sound of a mousetrap catching its prey.

The farmer's wife rushed to see what was caught. In the
darkness, she did not see it was a venomous snake whose tail the
trap had caught.

The snake bit the farmer's wife. The farmer rushed her to the
hospital and she returned home with a fever. Everyone knows you
treat a fever with fresh chicken soup, so the farmer took his
hatchet to the farmyard for the soup's main ingredient.

But his wife's sickness continued, so friends and neighbors came
to sit with her around the clock. To feed them, the farmer
butchered the pig.

The farmer's wife did not get well; she died. So many people
came for her funeral that the farmer had the cow slaughtered to
provide enough meat for all of them.

So, the next time you hear someone is facing a problem and think
it doesn't concern you, remember when one of us is threatened,
we are all at risk.

In the book of Genesis, Cain said this about Abel, his brother,
to our God: "Am I my brother's keeper?"

We are all involved in this journey called life. We must keep
an eye out for one another and make an extra effort to encourage
one another.

REMEMBER: EACH OF US IS A VITAL THREAD IN ANOTHER PERSON'S
TAPESTRY; OUR LIVES ARE WOVEN TOGETHER FOR A REASON.

I don't think preaching was the thrust of the story, but rather indifference.
Yes I do get that bit... but I somehow left out uplifting others or encouraging them and instead inserted preaching.

I see the difference now.

I still dont like preaching though, it leaves a scolding impression in my mind. I find telling people what to do a bit bossy.

Think of it as 'proclaiming', in this case, the Good News (Gospel). you don't have to boss anyone, if they receive it, great; if they refuse, then they end up like the chicken, pig, or cow. Their choice.

1 Corinthians
Chapter 1

For after that in the wisdom of God the world by wisdom knew not God, it pleased God by the foolishness of preaching to save them that believe.

Romans 13:4

New King James Version

4 For he is God’s minister to you for good. But if you do evil, be afraid; for he does not bear the sword in vain; for he is God’s minister, an avenger to execute wrath on him who practices evil..

preaching is not scolding the word of God is sharper than a two edged sword . the word brings conviction

Yes, I agree, as it says I've come to separate you from your kindred( or from them, meaning just separating you from their unbelief, but it must be done in Love, like when Abraham separated from his brother Lot in a kind way, offering him the first pick of the land. But if the sword comes from the heart of a Pharisee, it creates death and not life. When the Holy Spirit convicts, it always leaves the person an open way to return, and say, ya know maybe he was right!

God has taught me through many years, to never close the sheep gate on anyone, which was commanded by the Lord to Nehemiah in the rebuilding of Jerusalem's walls! For remember, you do not always know who are the Lord's children, so if we offend someone who in the end is his, with wacking with the sword unwisely, we could be in very hot water, as he says, if you offend one of these of mine, it should be as a mill stone be cast around your neck, and thrown into the sea. And what you have done unto these, you have done unto me. ( both good and bad! )

And the Bible says that he who offends not, is as to a perfect man. Now if the word is applied in Love for a stand upon the word and offense comes, then it is not you who is offending, it's Christ in you. For the Lord said, blessed is he who's not offended in me! But the key here for us is the word is applied in Love!

the word cuts brings conviction granted there is preaching that is used as a whipping post. i pray every time i get ready to speak.. let me speak what i only hear. a saying is like this we will have preaching when the preacher gets here . if not we will have a sermonette go to the dinette and smoke a cigarette  serious true Holy Spirit preaching bring results .. yes some times it sounds like scolding .. look at some the thing paul wrote to the Corinthian Church . a person can tell if its out of love or self.

i have walked out of church needing a spiritual band aid i got cut/toes stepped on :)

Yes me too! It's a good cleansing! We need more fire and brimstone preaching in the church I do agree, instead of all the prosperity preaching! Not much more preaching on hell these days, but why? Jesus preached more about hell than he did about heaven! I like fiery preaching a lot because it draws me more into forgiveness, which draws me closer to Christ! But I also know and have seen some hard preaching that does not give a healthy and positive final outlook on what has been preached. Leaving no escape is liking preaching hell to shun, and a heaven to gain!

I also like hard preaching on Holiness, which people without it will in no wise enter into heaven! It's all the good news to a real believer! Shalom!!!!
