There are many Old testament types that foreshadow(ed) the spiritual.

Animal sacrifices were always meant to be a type of Christ's future sacrifice, is just one more example.

Melchizedek was a type of Christ. Not much is said of him but
he played a distinct role in the order of the priesthood and the
mystery of him conveys that not all things had been yet revealed.
Abraham certainly knew the importance of Melchizedek's role
but even he did not know all that was to come. When Jesus said
it is finished he filled all the seats.
