Victory in Jesus

Are you having issues getting past sin in your lfe? Have faith my friends. Jesus said in John 8, He that commits sin is a slave to it. But if He sets you free from it, free you are indeed. Paul speaks of this slavery and the freedom Jesus offers in Romans 7 and 8. He says In respect to the bondage, the evil that he wouldn't he does. And if he does what he doesn't want to, it isn't him, but the sin in him, even though he delights over the Law of God that is in his mind. He can't help himself.

He calls this dilemma a law in 7:21 and says it is the law of sin, and it has him in captivity in verse 23.

Then he pleads, oh wretched man that I am, who shall deliver me from this body of death! And then I’m respect to that he says, there is now no condemnation to us who are in Christ Jesus.

Why?

For the Spirit of the Life in Christ Jesus has set us free from the Law of sin so that the righteousness of the Law be fulfilled in us. Who walk after this Spirit of life in Christ Jesus and not after the flesh. For if we walk after the flesh we shall die. But if we through walking in the Spirit of the life in Christ Jesus mortify the deeds of the body we shall live.

Good morning, Lightbearer;

I read your good thread, Victory in Jesus and would love to respond later.

I just got back Tuesday evening and am getting back into the swing behind the scenes here at CFS.

God bless you, brother, and thank you for sharing.

Bob
Look forward to your response Bob. Welcome back! When we post, we pray that others build onto it. So by all means please.

Good morning, lightbearer;

Years ago, yes. I couldn't get past my sin because I didn't want to let go. I'd say a prayer of confession and repentance, then go back to my sin.

Therefore, as you share I was a slave to that sin whether one, two or three sins. It took consciousness of myself and being still as God went ahead of me and is faithful. Christ set me free and many years later have stayed away from what entices me to go back into that sin.

In John 8:35-36, 35 The slave does not remain in the house forever; the son remains forever. 36 So if the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed. - ESV

In my senior years I'm facing new attacks of sin, for example, one of them being loveless to others depending on the moment or circumstance, when God loves me unconditionally. Difference is God has grown me spiritually, Praise Him. I'm more aware of who I am but always acknowledge God who knows and understands me more than myself.

While overseas we had a long conversation about this
lovelessness and it wasn't a surprise that I wasn't alone. It sounds sweet to quote this passage below but the discipline is tough to live by for many who follow Christ.

In Matthew 22:36-40, 36 “Teacher, which is the great commandment in the law?” 37 And he said to him, “You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your mind. 38 This is the great and first commandment. 39 And a second is like it, You shall love your neighbor as yourself. 40 On these two commandments depend all the law and the prophets.”
- RSV

God is able to build each of us up in this teaching as well as other areas to help us overcome our sin.

God bless you, lightbearer. You present Godly wise and thought provoking questions.

The OP said, "There is now no condemnation to us who are in Christ Jesus.

So how are we set free from death?

By walking in the Spirit of the life in Christ Jesus mortifying the deeds of the body that the righteousness of the Law be fulfilled in us.

In respect to this, how much leaven leavens the whole?

What if we are only walking in part and not wholly?

Hey there Bob nice post. The following verses came to mind. See how it fits with what you shared?

1John 4:16 And we have known and believed the love that God hath to us. God is love; and he that dwelleth in love dwelleth in God, and God in him.
1John 4:17 Herein is our love made perfect, that we may have boldness in the day of judgment: because as he is, so are we in this world.
