Hello Sola gratia;

In my personal study of Mark 13:7 and Matthew 24:6 I do think of wars and rumors of wars.

Jesus says these things must take place. We all know Jesus wins but even the Scriptures can fall short with me because of loss of life almost daily in these times. It's easy to dismiss when it's not our loved ones or us who may be a victim of war.

Yet, God has me stand firm and come to my senses. Praise Him! I continue daily in my prayers and study of the Word - but live it as well. What can God have me do to help those who cry and suffer to Christ, or to those who do not know?

Just a comment about the issue of wars and rumors of wars:

One of the reasons the United States military is the best in the world is because of its experience; in the history of the country since its founding in 1776, the US has never enjoyed a period of peace lasting 20 years.

That`s very interesting, as we in the West tend to think of ourselves `at peace.` (I`m from down under, which I suppose is off the map for many people.)

Hi Sola gratia,

I do love to read God`s word about what HE has done, is doing and will do. The Psalms are quite revealing.

`The LORD (Father) said to my Lord (Jesus), "Sit at my right hand, till I make Your enemies Your footstool." (Ps. 110: 1)

So, we know from God`s word that Jesus ascended to the Father and is there interceding for us. The Father is making the Lord`s enemies His footstool. (Heb. 1: 3 7: 25)

`Why do the nations rage, and the people plot a vain thing? The kings of the earth set themselves, and the rulers take counsel together, against the LORD and His anointed, saying, "Let us break their bonds in pieces and cast away their cords from us."

He who sits in the heavens shall laugh; the LORD shall hold them in derision. Then He shall speak to them in His wrath, and distress them in His deep displeasure.` (Ps. 2: 1 - 5)

This `breaking of God`s bonds,` is already in the process. I am talking about the UN`s (United Nation`s) religion. It has all the religions of the world under its umbrella - Earth Charter, mother earth, climate change, moral values (tolerance, respect, inclusive, common good etc) These all include immoral life styles and ungodly behaviour. These values have permeated all areas of society, civil, business and government. You can go to prison if you do not adhere to their values.

This, I believe is the nations `breaking the bonds,` (godly values) in pieces and substituting their own ungodly values.

What do you think?

And how is the Father bringing the nations to His Son`s footstool for judgment?
 
since we dont know the day or the hour as we use to say in hide and seek ready or not here i come. people best ready and watching by being a doer of the word . live like we know he is returning at any time.. much like we prepare for guest in our house .. time we clean our house .. not our neighbors personally i dont know what keeps him from taking us out of this world we live in

You're correct. Scripture does speak of the necessity of death due to sin.

However, the human in me had a moment. I felt discouraged and even the Scriptures fell short with me over our fellow Americans who perished during Hurricanes Helene and Milton. I have a new generation of family who currently reside in Florida and friends in North Carolina and of course I'm concerned.

I'm a firm believer in God's Word, therefore, my next sentence encourages me, "Yet, God has me stand firm and come to my senses. Praise Him! I continue daily in my prayers and study of the Word - but live it as well. What can God have me do to help those who cry and suffer to Christ, or to those who do not know?"

there will always be things of this nature we never understand ...why do bad things happen to good people to yet i have no idea job said though he slay me yet i will trust him.... it rains on the just and unjust alike keep praying

Yes, Bob, as humans we do grieve, however when we look from God`s perspective, I see something different.

We know that God`s hand of mercy is always outstretched, and it often takes a crisis for people to cry out to God. In our affluent West it seems that many people do not see the need for God or His help, but when a catastrophe or great difficulty arises then most people do see no other help except through God.

God is not so interested in giving us a peaceful comfortable life, but that all would turn to Him and have eternal (peaceful etc) Life. And this damaged world offers many opportunities for sickness, danger, crisis, accidents, difficulties etc. Great opportunities to really assess our vulnerability and a breath away from death.

thats not a fair statement i know lots good Christians who passed due to tragedy besides that scripture is out of context ..i lost a good pastor friend to covid ..he was a great pastor treated everyone equal .. was he perfect ? nope none of us are .. there are good people who try to live it and walk it

Mark 10:18 explicitly says 18 And Jesus said to him, “Why do you call me good? No one is good except God alone. - ESV

In Mark 10:17-22 Jesus was teaching the parable about the rich young ruler. As followers of Christ we are to strive doing good while emulating His example. This is different from being labeled good.

This can tie into Wars and Rumors of Wars because even the enemy honor their leaders as good, though misguided as they initiate war for underlying motives.

When we go before our Maker our hope to others is our zeal was to do good, not being labeled good.

yes that should be our goal... we will fall short. the Good news is 2 thing Jesus is our righteousness and if we sin we have a advocate that will take our case to the throne of Grace.. i have no good in me other than Christ in me the hope of Glory . until that day we keep our eyes on the prize .https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CzP5Li_2dWk

That is a common belief `that we don`t know the day or hour.` And while that is correct there is more to the topic.

We notice in 2 Peter 3: 10 that it is the Day of the LORD (God Almighty in judgment) that comes as a thief. Then in 1 Thess. 5: 4 & 5 we read that we (the believers)

`are NOT in darkness that this Day (of the LORD) should overtake us as a thief. You are all sons of light and sons of the day. We are NOT of the night nor of the darkness.`

So, when does God`s word tell us that the Day of the LORD begins. Let`s go to the prophet Joel.

`Blow a trumpet in Zion, and sound an alarm on My holy mountain! let all the inhabitants of the land tremble; for the Day of the LORD is coming, for it is at hand: a day of darkness and gloominess, a day of clouds and thick darkness, like the morning clouds spread over the mountains, a people come, great and strong, the like of whom has never been; nor will there ever be any such after them, even for many successive generations.` (Joel 2: 1 & 2)

Now, who is that great army?

`But I will remove far from you the northern army, and will drove him away into a barren and desolate land, with his face toward the eastern sea, and his back toward the western sea; his stench will come up, and his foul odor will rise, because he has done montrous things.` (Joel 2: 20)

The `northern` army - Heb. `tsaphon ` used only of the north as a quarter. And that then is obvious who that is.

And that's just significant moments of conflict. We have had many "mini" wars like Granada Panama, Bosnia.

at first i took a wait and see approach with israel . now its heating up our present government is trying play both sides of the fence.. give israel what it needs to put a big black hole in the middle of iran

This even found its way into our school board.

Last week, during its regular monthly school board meeting, agenda item H12 (Condemnation of all violence perpetrated on the state of Israel) was discussed. The summary was "The purpose of this item is to request that the Superintendent offer District mental health services, such as counseling, made available to all schools across the District to support students who may be affected by the recent events in Israel." During public hearings, one young female student spoke. She is from Palestine. She was articulate and made a good point about the passing of H12. There are victims on both sides, and I agree that the School Board should not take sides, especially taking into account that we are talking about children and non-combatants.

The School Board ended up voting for H2, but that young lady left an impression on me.
