What are the Christian Addictions that Lead to Sin?

Well we know all the obvious ones of drugs, adultery, pornography, sexual immorality, lust, anger, coveting, indolence, love of money. But what about the hidden ones or less obvious, a judgmental attitude, selfishness, control, pride, desires and the worst one, making an idolatry of things such as our children or objects we own. I've seen Christians that will bristle with hate if you dont praise and allow their children every thing they desire, food, cellphones, toys, unrestriced and permissive to the point of self destruction or will break every commandment if you come near their cars and damage them or even give it a scratch in a fit of road rage,

So when the temptation of 'Potiphars wife' approaches you and she uses the subtle approach (“lie with me”), what do you do? Many Christians just glance around to see if any one is looking, then grave the temptation with both hands and let it grow to an addiction. Christians say they believe, but how much do they truly believe if they never let God come in and cleanse them from it, and let the Holy Spirit begins its work of transformation on the road to sanctification. So do we have these 'Christian Addictions' in our life

You're talking about Christians living carnal lives letting their old nature control them. We are saved from sin when we become members of God's family. Unlike our unsaved neighbors, we're no longer slaves to sin; we now have the freedom to do good. Carnal Christians will eventually understand these things, but it might take several trips to God's woodshed before they get it.

Well a lot of members of 'Gods Family' like to gossip and talk about what the Pastors wife they dont like, or covet other members cars and houses, or keep Gods part of money for themselves or not give it at all and even the Pastors or Elders sometimes like to exert total control over people and church decisions rather than just allow God to work or properly administrate to say the least. So even the 'members' sometimes need to take a trip to the 'woodshed' like Peter when Paul admonished him before they 'get it'.

Good morning, Hobie;

Wow.
Been there and it wasn't pleasant. 12 years ago a member of our praise team was doing just as you described. It reached my ears. I prayed and asked what God said first of our problem. He led me to to call her out, one on one and refute her referencing Ephesians 4:29.

For some time she was grumbling with bitter anger behind the backs of people who served in our Church including myself. After speaking with her she responded with a temper tantrum, got up from her chair and walked out on me.

I asked our (late) Elder (God bless him) who was also the praise team minister to have her step down for a period. She had another tantrum. After that she attended Church for several weeks (on her own accord) but did not serve in ministry for awhile. God led her to just come to Church, be still, rest and worship.

We loved this member and prayed for her during her down period. Her addiction was her sharp tongue and emotional outbursts which was her way of getting attention. God teaches us to rely on Him instead of giving in to our own temptations that lead to sin and take away His glory.

After a few weeks our Elder felt she was ready to get back into the heart of worship. I was hesitant at first but trusted our Elder's discernment.

She was encouraged, instead of grumbling about others especially the Pastoral leadership, go directly to them and voice her concerns. Then pray for God's intervention to bring about reconciliation and healing. Pray for the Pastor because my top priority was and still is, people.

She transformed her attitude. She still needed some growing and discipleship but years later she went on to be a wonderful Children's Leader in our Church.

By the way, I like your name, Hobie.

God bless you, brother.

Bob

first off a addiction is acquired over a period of time.. it did not happen over night its a gradual process . i know of 2 woman both bad lungs cant give up smoking .. last night the wife fixed biscuits and gravy ( that's good vittles ) i wanted so bad to fix a huge plate full ..but being diabetic ..i knew that that my b.s would be high... ( yes i was tempted ) i did fair i had 2 biscustis on my plate broke up with gravy..... it sure was good... bit latter there was still gravy biscuits left..... .. yup i gave in had one biscuit with gravy on it.....

what i am trying to say temptation is at hand on every corner... temptation to over eat... i love good food but i try to keep myself in line and not over do it.. sometimes i fail... its same way with a temper to speak out when best off say nothing... can temptation be over come ? yes through discipline .. which is like a boot camp in the military only ..it never goes away .

the lust of the flesh is a fight for each one of us. the word lust is a desire. so next time we shake our head at the smoker with bad lungs ..

stop and think what do WE need to give up i use play checkers watching the game i seen all kinds moves 2 to 3 men jump get kinged and go to town.. but when i sit down to play i couldn't see the moves... i think jesus called it a speck and beam in our moment ..amen

It's late and dark, and you parked your car at the far end of the lot. Do you return the shopping cart or just leave it and drive off?
most likely leave it
