what is Christmas to you ?

not really sure this will get many takes . in your own words /scripture what does Christmas mean to?

25 And, behold, there was a man in Jerusalem, whose name was Simeon; and the same man was just and devout, waiting for the consolation of Israel: and the Holy Ghost was upon him.

26 And it was revealed unto him by the Holy Ghost, that he should not see death, before he had seen the Lord's Christ.

27 And he came by the Spirit into the temple: and when the parents brought in the child Jesus, to do for him after the custom of the law,

28 Then took he him up in his arms, and blessed God, and said,

29 Lord, now lettest thou thy servant depart in peace, according to thy word:

30 For mine eyes have seen thy salvation,

31 Which thou hast prepared before the face of all people;

32 A light to lighten the Gentiles, and the glory of thy people Israel.

33 And Joseph and his mother marvelled at those things which were spoken of him.

34 And Simeon blessed them, and said unto Mary his mother, Behold, this child is set for the fall and rising again of many in Israel; and for a sign which shall be spoken against;

35 (Yea, a sword shall pierce through thy own soul also,) that the thoughts of many hearts may be revealed.

i really like Luke for the Birth of Christ . simieon suddenly appears on the scene and speaks this outstanding prophecy . had this Baby Jesus not been born and gave his life on a rugged cross the payment of our sins rose again on the 3rd day gives us eternal life.. ascended to heaven promised to return again and come back get us. this is just a small brief .

mind you if this post is to boring pass it up... we dont know that He was born dec 25 . but i celebrate his birth / what he done for ME /His coming back .paul called it the fullness of time

Hello forgiven;

I enjoyed your thread, what is Christmas to you?

A one day reminder of Celebrating Jesus but also each day.

I also love the Book of Luke and especially what Simeon prophesied about Jesus whom he had never met. Simeon had a discernment for the Holy Spirit and acted upon it.

God bless you, my brother, your wife, family and church family.

For me, Christmas is a time to celebrate Jesus' birth. The Bible doesn’t say specifically when he was born and so it doesn’t really matter to me whether he was actually born in the spring, as some believe, or in the fall as others advocate.

Winter is a good time for some physical and spiritual cheering up in either case.

What matters to me is, that for much of the Christian world (not all of course) we can come together in a time set aside to acknowledge His birth and to observe the Nativity and to thank God that he was born.

Isaiah 9:6 KJV
For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace.

God bless.

what would our world be like had he not been born 32 A light to lighten the Gentiles, and the glory of thy people Israel.

400 years between the ot and the n.t silence. yes i am sure God was at work but still no recorded message

It's a time to ponder the magnificence of the historic event where God became man fulfilling many OT prophecies and clearing the stage for our redemption through his perfect obedience including His pending death and resurrection.

Hebrews 2:14 Forasmuch then as the children are partakers of flesh and blood, he also himself likewise took part of the same; that through death he might destroy him that had the power of death, that is, the devil;
Hebrews 2:15 And deliver them who through fear of death were all their lifetime subject to bondage.

i realized when i started this it would not go very far . we have allowed Satan to steal Christmas
Satan has no power to steal.
Society has co-opted and exulted the lesser things of the remembrance and obscures the rest.
We sing of joy, but out joy is not because our sins are forgiven.

There are three sourced of temptation, The world (the society we make apart from God), The Flesh (our selfish desires), and the Devil. Two of the three are us.

The enemy will use whatever he can of the first two (World and Flesh), but they stem from us.

Rejoice because the remedy for this was provided. Have Joy because we recognize the sins within us have no power.

That is what Christmas means to me.

Satan has no power to steal.
nope but we allow him we have allowed the spirit of commercialism to replace the true meaning. it use to be Christmas display after thanksgiving, now its place with Halloween.. the Birth of Christ was put in place in genesis prophesied in Deuteronomy 18. the o.t prophets told about him. a 400 year span of silence between the old test and the new test. then we are told all about it in Matthew a savior and he will save his people from their sins .Dec 25 on the calendar is fine but i celebrate His Birth every day.

just think how dark this world would be with out Jesus

I tend to not write using the word 'we' because I can only write from my own experience, which is not the majority, even though I am a human being like everyone else.

So I can't make broad statements saying 'we' do this or that. I can only observe that, in NZ, the shops here seem to be getting an american influence more and more even when NZ doesn't really trade with the US. It is now a bit strange to hear about 'Black Friday' sales and Halloween. At Christmas time, the shops always put up snow and santa displays and a lot of the decorations are what you would use for winter, but in NZ, it's actually summer time so it's all a bit of farce. lol
